Here¡¯s the latest evidence (aside from Chinese officials saying so already) suggesting that China¡¯s first aircraft carrier will likely put to sea very soon; the construction trailers are starting to be removed from the Shi Lang¡¯s (ex Soviet Varyag) flight deck.
That image was presented last night on China Defense Blog along with the hilarious sentence: ¡°Looks like the PLAN does not like to see single-wides parked at their prime real estate ¨C get those tornado magnets outta here.¡±
These next two pictures show a Shi Lang that looks less like a construction project and more like a ship that could be underway soon.

I hope this ship will not venture far from shore and only be used to training - till such time as a significantly larger proto-type with nuclear propulsion can be designed tested and several lined up for production -- As the US and the West in general decline, they are and will be more dangerous and conflicts, regardless of size will only slow China's development and growth.

Absolutely right.

We don't want to get into any unnecessary conflicts with declining (but still dangerous) powers.

It is best to remain cautious, and continue to build up our capabilities.

Yup, the Varyag will be a training carrier.

China will build a total of five carriers (three conventional, two nuclear), including the Varyag.

It depends China's need, maybe it is 5-7, or maybe it is 10-11.

Optimistically, China's first indigenous carrier could be right away a 100,000 tons CVN.

Pessimistically, the first two indigenous carriers would be the 80,000 tons CV, then the third one would be the 100,000 tons CVN.
