Secret info on Israel’s submarine fleet said lost by contractor
Police investigating possible theft of USB drive containing classified information from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems employee
Military and civilian police are investigating the possible loss or theft of a USB drive containing classified information on the Israeli Navy’s submarine fleet, according to a Tuesday report.
An employee of the Haifa-based military contractor Rafael Advanced Defense Systems told her bosses that she had lost the USB drive after taking it home from the office some two weeks ago, Hadashot news reported.
The removal of the drive from the Rafael office likely constitutes a serious security breach.
There was no word on what type of information had gone missing or if the woman would face disciplinary action or criminal prosecution for losing the information.
Rafael is one of the largest private defense contractors in Israel, responsible for the Iron Dome missile defense system, it’s seaborne equivalent C-Dome, the Spike surface-to-surface missile and other arms.
It also manufactures an array of
underwater torpedo defense solutions.
Most details about Israel’s submarine fleet are under heavy guard and rarely publicized.
