The 911 caller advised the train had derailed and the train was taking on water.

The fire involved 'hazardous materials,' spokesperson Justin Wilson said. Hazmat technicians performed atmospheric monitoring in the area and began initiating spill control measures with difficulty due to the swollen creek.

With the fire involving hazardous materials, a decision was made to begin evacuation of the area closest to the fire. Evacuations had begun around 2am.

Around 5.30am, crews operating on scene determined the fire and hazmat to be under control with good air quality readings in the area.

It was unclear what exactly the train cars were carrying but crews were continuing 'atmospheric monitoring' after evacuation orders were lifted around 6am.

Approximately two hours into the incident, the fire had substantially subsided but still posed a threat to the surrounding area.

Fire apparatus were put into position on both sides of the fire to protect homes in case the fire spread through the wood line.

An unmanned master stream appliance was deployed to cool railcars exposed to the fire.

Photos shared by authorities showed smoky air over buildings in the city northeast of downtown Atlanta.

Two employees involved in the derailment were able to get to safety and were being evaluated for possible injuries, the agency said in a Facebook post. No injuries were immediately reported.

WATCH: Train plows through semi-truck in Salem after driver goes around warning gates
Updated Feb 17, 2021; Posted Feb 17, 2021
By Kale Williams | The Oregonian/OregonLive

A driver with a dashcam caught startling footage Tuesday morning of a train plowing through the trailer of a big rig in Salem after the trucker drove past warning gates that were descending.

Salem police said the crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. near Court Street Northeast and Center Street Northeast.

In the video, the truck driver can be seen trying to go past the warning gates as they begin lowering to block access to the rails.

As the truck negotiates a tight right turn under the gate, it appears to get blocked and comes to a halt.

The train, having no way to stop in such a short distance, barrels right through the trailer.

Police said the train did not derail and no one was injured, though the intersection was closed for several hours.

Freight train collides with tractor-trailer in Texas, triggering fiery explosion caught on video; no injuries
Elinor Aspegren, USA TODAY
Tue, February 23, 2021, 3:23 PM·1 min read

A freight train carrying coal and gasoline collided with a tractor-trailer that ran a railroad crossing Tuesday morning in central Texas, setting off a fiery explosion that darkened skies with smoke.

Nobody was injured in the collision in Cameron, about 130 miles south of Dallas, authorities said, but the resulting explosion captured on video by passersby and residents was a spectacle.

"Fortunately, everyone was able to escape before the explosion," Texas Department of Public Safety Press Officer Brian Washko said, per the Cameron Herald.

At least one barn burned down and some nearby homes suffered heat damage, Cameron Fire Chief Henry Horelica said in a press conference, as reported by broadcast station KVUE.

The semi-truck didn't slow as it approached the railroad crossing, although the crossing arms were down and another vehicle was already waiting, state officials said at the press conference.

An 18-wheeler and train collided in Milam County, Texas on Feb, 23. The crash led to several fuel tank cars derailing and catching fire.

The truck driver managed to avoid colliding with the other vehicle, but then a BSNF train smashed into the truck, causing a huge explosion, authorities said.

Milam County Sheriff Chris White said the mixed freight train was carrying coal and gasoline in several cars and that the back of the train contained hazardous material that didn't spill after the collision.

"There's no more threat at this point," White said.

Multiple fire departments were trying to contain the fire prior to putting it out by late Tuesday, Horelica said.

A child and two adults were killed when a Chicago Metra train smashed into their car on a railroad crossing at 79mph and pushed it for half-a-mile along the tracks.

The train, heading north into the city, struck the vehicle just after 5pm on Saturday at the railroad crossing of 107th Street and Vincennes Avenue on the city's Far South Side, Chicago fire officials told the Chicago Sun-Times.

All three passengers - a man, woman and child - were pronounced dead after the train came to a stop near 103rd Street and Vincennes Avenue, with Chicago fire officials saying they were believed to be from the same family.

The force of the impact caused the train's front car to partially derail, according to Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile, and at some point the vehicle caught fire.

The train's 43-year-old conductor was injured in the crash and taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital, officials said.

An engineer also suffered a leg injury. Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said that neither employees' injuries were life threatening.

Pictures from the snene showed the crumpled frame of the vehicle at the front of the train, the front few cars of which were off the rails. Rocks from the tracks littered the intersection at 103rd Street and Vincennes Avenue.

'It's heart-rending,' Gillis said in his statement. 'It's the worst thing I've seen. I've been doing this job for 12 years, this is the worst scene I've seen.'

Reile said 41 passengers aboard the train declined medical attention and were transported to a different station so they could continue their way into the city.

Speaking to the Chicago Sun-Times, Matt Townsend - who was riding back to the city with his girlfriend - said he was still trying to process the 'traumatic' event.

'It was hard to see out of the windows because there was so much dirt on both sides of the train,' Townsend said in a phone interview on Sunday night with the news outlet. 'And I knew there was something wrong at that time.'

The 47-year-old said he was in either the third or fourth rail carriage, and that people were in shock as they were escorted off the train.

'Everybody was anxious, tensions were running high, and we were wanting to get off faster than the line was allowing us to,' Townsend told the Sun-Times.

'... The car was unrecognizable as a car, it was just a clumped up piece of metal... and I started seeing flames come from the car, and that was scary. But most importantly, I knew that people had died,' he added.

Sandy Wilson, who witnessed the event from across the street at the intersection where the train came to a stop said she saw two men run to try to help the victims, before emergency crews worked to remove the child and woman from the vehicle.

The train's 43-year-old conductor was injured in the crash and transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital in a good condition, officials said. An engineer also suffered an injury to his leg, with Metra spokesman Michael Gillis saying at the scene that both employees' injuries were non-life threatening

Metra has opened an investigation into the incident, and all Metra Rock Island services have been stopped near 103rd street.

It was not immediately known how fast the train was traveling at the time of the collision, though Reile said the speed limit for trains in that area is 79 mph, although Gillis added that the train was “basically expressing” through the area at about 79 mph.

'Our understanding at this point in time that everything was functioning as intended,' Reile said.

'However, we will be doing - and this is normal operating procedure anytime there´s an incident involving a train whether it´s a fatality or not - we take downloads and check the equipment to make sure it was functioning at the time properly.

'But we have no information at this time to indicate that our signals and gates were not working.'

Video has captured the moment that a semi truck that got stuck at a railroad crossing was obliterated by a speeding train in Ohio.

The truck could be seen stopped over the tracks at 7pm on Monday in Columbus Grove, a village about 90 miles North West of Columbus, Ohio.

The footage was posted online by witness Mark Myers, who simply captioned it: 'So, that was an interesting trip to get Luke from football'.

The crossing gates can be seen closing around the vehicle - with one hitting the trailer roof and the other wedging behind the truck cab.

Moments later, Meyers can be heard saying: 'I think I hear the whistle.'

As the train comes into their view, Myers says, 'Oh my God, he's going to be hit. How are you not just going?'

Sure enough, just a few seconds later, the train strikes the side of the truck's trailer, sending it flying.

A steel structure over the tracks is pulled down, as the train continues to plough straight through the wreckage - dragging part of the trailer about 250 yards down the track before coming to a halt.

'Oh my gosh,' Myers says as the scene unfolds, before turning his camera back to the truck - which now only has a cab that starts to pull over to the side.

Fortunately, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said, no one was injured in the crash, with train crew members seen in local news footage leaving the train unharmed.

Police said they started receiving reports of a CSX truck on the railroad tracks at around 6.45 p.m. but it was already too late to stop the oncoming train.

They have also said that initial indications show the truck's driver had trouble maneuvering across the cross bucks and could not get out of the path of the train.

Another video from the incident, taken from the other side of the tracks, shows the truck try to pull up a few feet as whistles could be heard in the background, while a woman says, matter-of-factly: 'There is a train coming.'

As the whistles become more frequent, the woman could be heard saying: 'Oh he's gonna hit that son of a b***, he's gonna f****** hit him.'

Then when the train plows through the truck, the video shows the cab lilt to the side, sending the cab flying as the woman screams, 'Oh my f****** God. Holy s***.'

Footage from the aftermath of the horrifying crash show debris strewn across the street, with what appears to be part of the trailer landing upside down as authorities investigated the incident Monday night.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Puntam County Sheriff officials for more information.

This is the shocking moment a train smashed into a semi truck stuck on Texas railroad tracks and destroyed the expensive wind turbine blade the vehicle was hauling.

Daniel Canup, a driver for Minnesota company Northern Lights Specialized, LLC, was making a turn on Route 183 in Luling, about 50 miles south of Austin, when his oversized rig stopped on the tracks.

Video footage recorded by a driver witnessing the scene captured the semi on the tracks with an escort vehicle sitting a few feet in front of it.

The 18-wheeler knocked over several electrical poles as it tried to make the turn before stopping in front of the escort vehicle.

The driver recording the footage was heard shouting expletives as the railroad cross markers began coming down on the back of the semi.

He was heard repeating 'Oh my God. Oh my God', as the train began to approach the semi.

The driver of the escort vehicle quickly got into his vehicle and drove down the road to get out of Canup's way, who then followed behind as the train began blaring its horn.

The escort vehicle for Canup's company was blocking the road in front him as the semi was seen sticking halfway out into the road with the other half stuck across the tracks

Seconds later, the Union Pacific train smashed into the back end of the semi truck and completely destroyed the wind turbine blade the truck was carrying.

The train dragged the truck and turned it on its side to the shock and awe of witnesses and nearby drivers.

'It was so scary, because there are a lot of people right here in the market, and everything happened in seconds,' a witness told KXAN.

The Luling Police Department arrived to the scene on Sunday afternoon and found no one, including Canup, had suffered from any injuries.

'The Good Lord had his hand on him! Hit by a train and did not get even one scratch,' Daniel's wife Michelle Canup posted on Facebook.

'Please continue to pray for him and all that was involved. There was no other injuries thank God. A lot of damage and his truck is totaled. Not sure where God will lead him/us but we trust him.'

Canup allegedly blamed the escort vehicle for not warning him in time of the oncoming train which could have avoided the accident altogether.

'The escort service is supposed to time the crossings and coordinate with the train company in the event of a situation like this. So many failures', Twitter user @SubliminalAniml said.

Route 183 was closed by police who also reported that three parked vehicles, the railroad crossing signal controller, a commercial building and utility pole were all damaged.

The front of the train's engine was also damaged. The train and tracks were inspected by Union Pacific staff before service resumed at 9pm.

The crash still remains under investigation.

This is reportedly not the first incident of an accident in the area as 13 other vehicles have gotten into crashes near the tracks with half of them being truck trailers, according to KXAN.

'Part of the problem is in our experience, the oversized loads that have been permitted have traveled west on 183 from I-10, to turn north on 183, to proceed toward Lockhart, and the oversized loads — especially the ones with the wind turbines — are unable to turn', a federal railroad report said.

The intersection between Magnolia Avenue and Pierce Street, where the accident happened, is considered to be the third most dangerous in the district, according to Luling's Chief of Police Bill Sala.

The semi was then suddenly struck by the train in the matter of a few seconds, destroying the expensive wind turbine he was carrying

The video was posted on Facebook by Joe Throgmorton whose company driver recorded the shocking event.

It also got a lot of attention on Twitter after it was posted by @PermianLandman and received 91,200 likes, 29,300 retweets, and 2,300 comments.

Many Twitter users still debated who was at fault for the incident.

'I don’t know how the trains work… but are the conductors the only people that don’t know how to use breaks???,' @Robphillips_ said.

'Every time there’s an accident the train never stopped. And if there’s an issue with stopping…then maybe the trains need to be fixed? Modified!!!'

'Dont blame the train, the driver of that blade is at fault,' @DirtySouthScout replied.

'Oversize load drivers should know that you cant move that fast, let alone beat a train. He should have sat his a** at the light and waited til the train passes, simple.'

(CNN)Three people are dead after an Amtrak train derailed in Montana on Saturday afternoon, the Liberty County Sheriff's office said in a statement to CNN.
Authorities would not speak on the number of injured or the extent of their injuries.

Seven cars from Amtrak's Empire Builder train 7/27 derailed near Joplin, Montana, injuring an undisclosed number of passengers, Amtrak said in a statement. The train consisted of two locomotives and 10 cars.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. local time, and there were approximately 146 passengers and 16 crew members on board, Amtrak said in an additional statement Saturday night.

"Amtrak is working with the local authorities to transport injured passengers, and safely evacuate all other passengers," the railway added. "Additional details will be provided as available."

Individuals with questions about their friends and family aboard the train should call 800-523-9101, the railway said.
The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a "Go Team" to investigate, the agency said Saturday night.

The Empire Builder travels between Chicago-St.Paul/Minneapolis-Spokane-Portland/Seattle, according to Amtrak's website, and offers passengers a chance to "experience the rugged splendor of the American West.

"Traveling between Chicago and the Pacific Northwest along major portions of the Lewis and Clark Trail, the mighty Empire Builder takes you on an exciting adventure through majestic wilderness, following in the footsteps of early pioneers," the website adds.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

A man and a woman have been killed after their car was hit by a train on a railroad crossing in Kansas on Thanksgiving .

Police officers were called out to a rural area 75 miles outside of Topeka in Miami County, Kansas, after the incident which occurred at around 6pm yesterday.

The Sedan and the section of the train involved in the crash reportedly caught fire following collision, which KSHB reports also shunted the vehicle a quarter of a mile down the rail tracks.

The sheriff's office confirmed that both of the people killed in the incident had been in the car.

It was also confirmed that nobody onboard the train suffered any injuries.

Sheriff's Office Captain Matthew Kelly said that it is currently too early to determine exactly why the crash took place.

But he added that it does not appear to be as a result of a malfunction with the crossing or the train.

'It was on the tracks, but we don’t know the reasoning of why it was on the tracks,' Kelly said.

'We don't know if it was moving across the tracks [or] stopped on the tracks.'

Firefighters from a number of agencies descended on the scene to put out the fire.

The railroad crossing has arms as well as bells and flashing lights as warning mechanisms.

Kelly added: 'We don’t believe that there’s any malfunctions that occurred at this intersection at the time.

'However, we’re not sure if the arms were down after the accident occurred or if the vehicle was there prior to the arms going down. If they went around it is something that we’re trying to figure out.'

The identities of the two victims have not yet been released.
