Commandos to train school guards in Pindi
MOHAMMAD ASGHAR — UPDATED ABOUT 3 HOURS AGO

RAWALPINDI: After threats to educational institutions, guards and watchmen of different schools, colleges and universities are being trained by Elite Force Commandos at Police Lines Rawalpindi.

The sessions started on Monday and will include weapon handling and how to counter a terrorist attack. In the session on Monday, 53 guards were trained while 62 guards were trained on Tuesday. Wednesday’s session will include 110 guards.

Superintended of Police (SP) Headquarters Ameer Abdullah Niazi told Dawn all the guards and watchmen were required to complete the three-day training programme at Police Lines before they are sent to educational institutions.

They will be trained to handle weapons including a shot-gun and a 44-bore rifle, though they will not be allowed to use the AK-47, Mr Niazi said.

After they have been trained, the guards will be sent to educational institutions where some will be deployed on the roofs, others in the school itself and then some at the entrance.

“Though we don’t know if five security personnel at each school will be enough to counter terrorism, they can help in engaging attackers,” the SP said.

He added that the provincial government has been requested to allow the security guards deployed on the roofs of school buildings to keep an AK-47.

The SP explained that there are more than 4,000 government and private educational institutions in Rawalpindi and that the guards of all of these will be required to be trained.

For God sake give them AK 47, weapon safety, walkie talkie and at least light kevlar protection. Imagine loading a shotgun with two terrorists firing in tandem.

@RescueRanger
Sir, please tell me what I have read above is 'NOT' true, how can they allow a desi made "44 bore" AK knock off to be fired in the presence of minor??
does it make sense to you that they will allow a local round but prohibit AK 47??
that is really absurd coming from Elite Commando and legalizing the choose of this round ----

to other's who don't know, 44 bore or as we call it 'Churtalli bore' in our desi slang is basically 7.92x33 kurz, and AK 47 was never designed for this calibre ---and given the quality of these in market - this possess a hazard to the Shooter himself

Good step... Train the guards so that they can shoot properly... :P
and for heavens sake give them quality weapons too ---

Sadly it's true, this program existed in 2010 - 2011/2012 as well. Desperate times, NOC for larger caliber is not allowed for private security, .32 for pistol and 44 for semi auto rifle.

Sir some have quota especially if they are guards from Wackenhut SMS/Pathfinder or Haris, who have a small quota. General rule as per Pakistan Private Security Company Ordinance 2001 - non prohibited bore firearms only.

about fking time!
Btw while they are at it, might as well hire someone who is not 80 years old baba g. In fact PA should take in charge of at least gov school guards hiring processes. And also equip them with assault auto rifles not rusted muskets that will malfunction after one shot.
