COAS General Raheel Sharif all set for United States

.
Could be an effort to achieve out of him what they could not out of PM.

COAS will be visiting the States from 15th to 20th November. Afghanistan is on the agenda, along with security concerns in the region, and Taliban. Pak's nukes may be discussed. Word of a possible warship sale is on the table as well (What warship exactly?). What are your thoughts?

COAS General Raheel Sharif Set for U.S. Visit | Today in Pakistan

What warship sale? No discussion of Pakistan buying US warship. Unless you are talking about old Perry-class frigates US was giving to Pakistan.

Could be an effort to achieve out of him what they could not out of PM.

US knows COAS Sharif is really in charge about things they care about most: terrorism, Afghanistan, nukes, etc.

By now US should also know that he uses stratagem more than strategy.

The recent visit by the PM Nawaz Sharif’s to the U.S. was considered very fruitful and productive. President Obama and Prime Minister Sharif renewed their common resolve to promote peace and stability throughout the region and to counter all forms of extremism and terrorism. The upcoming visit by the COAS Raheel Sharif will allow us to build on our improving relationship, and continue to address our shared concerns and objectives. Those who remain pessimistic regarding out partnership while making false assumption should know that President Obama affirmed Pakistan’s role as a key counterterrorism partner and recognized the sacrifices that Pakistani civilians, military, and law enforcement personnel have made over the years as they confront terrorism and militant groups. The President expressed particular appreciation for Pakistan’s ongoing support to degrade and ultimately defeat al‑Qa’ida and its affiliates, noting that this partnership has helped to decimate the group’s leadership and operational capacity and has disrupted plots against the U.S. homeland. The President also honored the sacrifices of the Pakistani security forces in Operation Zarb-e-Azb and other operations, which have degraded the ability of militants to plan and execute terrorist attacks and noted further steps being taken in this regard in line with the National Action Plan.

Americans have to keep Pakistan in good humor for the time being because it needs Pakistan’s support in Afghanistan for stability and honorable exit. Will the US risk straining its already fragile relations with Pakistan just to please the Indians, particularly when Pakistan’s nukes do not intend to target any Western target? Knowing Americans and their obsession with benefit-cost analysis, it is very unlikely that they would push Pakistan if Pakistanis play their cards prudently. If the Americans still choose to discuss Pakistan’s tactical nukes, the outcome of the talks can be predicted even before the talks get underway.
