Coal Power Plants will Hurt Pakistan

No matter which one you chose, there is an associated environmental cost; even the dams can have serious effects on the ecosystem. For example, the dam wall blocks fish migrations. The dam also traps sediments, which are critical for maintaining physical processes and habitats downstream of the dam such as the maintenance of productive deltas, barrier islands, fertile floodplains and coastal wetlands. Dams also raise the water table causing salinity & water logging.

Although wind power has less impact than fossil fuel plants and dams; they have an adverse effect on seasonal bird migration, rotor blades cause noise pollution and destroy the beauty of the landscape.

Large solar farms need a vast amount of land, use lot of water and hazardous material in the manufacture of PVC panels. In short, there is hardly any power source which has zero impact on the environment. No doubt coal power is about the dirtiest there is. That is why it is mandatory to clean the exhaust gases before the same are let out into the atmosphere.

In case of Pakistan, we have very little option, either we go for the cheapest possible source of energy or live with load-shedding till kingdom come.

I think Pakistani public has been made paranoid about coal by the propaganda of the oil lobby in the past few years, as if a few thousand MW worth of coal power plants (based on comparatively modern and cleaner technology) would turn the whole of Pakistan into a toxic wasteland...

Look man burning coal is good for Pakistan. Main problem in Pakistan is energy and many people are dead because of energy shortage so we can burn coal and achieve a balance.
Some how magically there is barrier between Indian Punjab and rajsitan where 100,00mw is produced via coal and Pakistan

this barrier filters out all the coal related bad effects...

This effect is popularly called " Pakistanis are idoits" effect

india china are using coal power plants and pakistan is effected since last 30 years then why not we do it ourselves . if anyone have issue plant every month 20 trees

India and China are the worst polluters in the world. And we will suffer the consequences.

If coal has to be burnt do burn good quality coal, which I know, does not exist in the subcontinent.

I really do not understand Pakistan. When Pakistan can receive cheap and reliable gas from Iran and not use coal. But ...

Coal has higher energy returns.

We will take up your Gas offer when you Stop being indias Proxy.

The coal energy is cheaper than Gas. Plus Pakistan needs gas for other thing more than electricity production.

sir they also have cheap energy from coal while Pakistan producing very expensive gas and oil power . so its our right for cheap energy

Coal is one of the dirtiest fuels. Most countries intend to get rid of it. And everybody knows that the reason for not buying gas is none of this illusion of conspiracies ...

The issue is Pakistan, in the neighborhood of the world's second largest natural gas reservoir, has decided to use coal and accept all its losses...

It's called Balance of payments.
Are you satisfied with the result?

With those massive coal reservoirs they should built more coal based power plants. With advance turbines the carbon emission is far less.

Yes Pakistan is the neighbor of the largest deposit of natural gas and yes Pakistan desperately needs that gas for many things but the problem is US sanctions those secondary sanctions are very bad in effect so for that reason Pakistan has decided to purchase that gas from Russia and that will provide Pakistan the Irani gas. Regarding the land pipe line from Iran or IP line it will only happen if China takes the initiative Pakistan will join in then so that Pakistan has some cover from USA.

Hope with the start of the trade wars. The conditions will change and Pakistan will be able to re-launch the gas project with Iran

Permanently buying fuel from abroad means a permanent drain on foreign reserves. Using indegenous resources avoids this loss and boosts domestic economy. Of all the foreign gas options, the Iran deal is on paper the best.

Modern coal technology is nothing like the 1950's technology that most current coal powered stations use, and there is still room for improvement.
