ISLAMABAD:
A 1,320-megawatt coal-fired power project being developed in Sahiwal will start producing energy by the end of 2017, Water and Power Secretary Younus Dagha said.

Talking to a news channel, he said this was one of the mega energy projects which would help to resolve energy crisis in the country.

He said the government was setting new traditions by completing mega development projects speedily. On his visit to Sahiwal, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also appreciated the pace of on-going work on the project.

Dagha said the coal-fuelled power project was being constructed near Qadirabad over an area of 1,001 acres and 35% work had been completed.

“The deadline of the project is December 25, 2017 and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is committed to completing work in the set time frame.” To a question, he replied that nothing could be fixed without tackling the energy crisis and the government was serious in that regard.

I really wish we can end energy crisis by 2017. It is very important if we want to gain GDP growth around 6%. Also we need to solve Gas issue as well bcz Textile industry is suffering bcz of it.

Insha Allah... It'll be reduced to quiet extent if they didn't end it....

If they can achieve 10000MW target then that should be enough to cover short fall but we need to more addition as economic and manufacturing activity increases then we will need more energy resources to cover the gap. For that we need all dams to be built including kalabagh Dasu and Bhasha. Aafter Dasu and Bhasha political will need to be created for Kalabagh. We need new reservoir as after 20 year we wont have enoughwater from glaciers and stored water and rain water will be the only thing keeping us alive.

35 percent?? Am i missing something here.... i was in Pakistan last month (1st week of January) and happened to pass by projected power plant area and there was nothing just marking and just (may be wrong) 3 to 4 cranes. and after one month they have completed 35 % of mega project. \if it is true then i think, I will see another Nandipur project.

They need coal if they are made to generate electricity. Unfortunately they are made as part of rang bazee drama and once they generate votes in 2018, they will die as thousands of other rangbazee stunts
