Clash at Tibetan monastery in China could turn 'explosive', Dalai Lama says

becaust india was robbed by the britishers while hk was leased by them and still it took shanghai 14 years to get near hong kong

Why did colonization make India, the African countries, the Middle East, the Native Americans, etc. worse off?

Because you didn't make the best out of a bad situation. Hong Kong did, and now we are considered an advanced economy.

And Shanghai is soon set to surpass us.

In fact, both Beijing and Shanghai already rank higher than or equal to Hong Kong in the city rankings.

its was because the times were different before ww2 the britishers looked down on people in their colonies they equated dogs and indians and they robbed india and other countries of many things
that was not the case with hong kong as they became more considerated after ww2 and china leased it,the britishers didnt invade it

You don't know what you're talking about. Ever heard of the Opium wars? They drugged us, and then waged war on us. This happened a long time before WW2.

I think it's quite embarrassing for an Indian to be making the argument that colonization was a good thing for some.

The question remains, India was colonized for 200 years... so why doesn't it look like a big Hong Kong?

If anything, it is mainland China that is starting to look like a big Hong Kong.

That is a fancy excuse.

That doesn't explain why Chinese cities like Beijing and Shanghai are soaring up the city rankings, and are even ranking higher than Hong Kong.

Anyway, enough of this attempt to excuse colonialism.

Time to get back to the topic.

Well, Indians never cease to astonish us. Last time we had an Indian trying to lecture CD on his indentity, this time we are having another Indian lecturing him on the reason why HK is an prosperous city.

harsh1488, I remembered that the prestigious Fortune magazine once had the same thought with you, they also attributed HK's prosperity to British policies. They even wrote an article "the death of HK" on the eve of the handover, in which they alarmingly predicted the catastrophic consequence of the return of HK and asserted HK would go down after British left and Chinese took over. Of course Fortune apologized for that article in 2007, ten years after the return of HK.

LOL, what a scaremongering article from Fortune magazine.

In fact, Hong Kong today is even better than it was in 1997, and we are continuing to show strong economic growth.

According to polls in Hong Kong, the locals are feeling a much stronger connection to their Chinese heritage after the handover.

Anyone who thinks that being colonized and ruled by "foreigners" is a good thing, is really ridiculous.

So is everything ok in Tibet now ? :pop:

. . . . .
What mortality rate you're talking about? sorry, we don't have 5000 babies die on a daily basis.

New Delhi: India has the highest infant mortality rate in the world, a nationwide survey reveals. India has slipped from 128 to 134 rank in 2009 according to a United Nations Human Development report.
