i loved how huge the maps could be in Civ 3, you could build an empire of 40-50 cities, the new Civ games are 3 dimentional crap...

I think ever since they went toward the AoE and Rise of Nation route it started ruin the game, that game is best with Big Map and Turn base building gameplay. I really REALLY hated CIV IV when they started limit the map size.

Well, if your into huge maps there is a game called Distant Worlds:Universe, its a space Empire simulator with mindboggelingly huge map 1800 star systems, each system having 7-8 planets each planets having moons and all of them revolving around the sun..

The economic and supply system in the game is very good, good enough to actually make to enforce economic sanctions on an empire and to effect its economy ...but its graphically crap...

You are right. Beyond Earth should be a DLC for Civ 5

Their leader is pretty much an amalgamation of Indonesian & Australian culture.

Also I don't like CIV very much I found it too easy. I usually play paradox games like CK2 where the games are much more challenging.
