Prime Minister (PM) Mian Nawaz Sharif has said acquiring civil nuclear technology is our fundamental right to meet our country’s needs.
“Pakistan is a peace loving country. It harbors no aggressive designs against any country but it will maintain minimum nuclear deterrence.
Acquiring civil nuclear technology is our fundamental right to meet our requirements. National integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan will be ensured at every cost”, PM said this during briefing given by military authorities on the occasion of PM visit to Kahuta nuclear plant Friday.
As per media reports PM visited Kahuta nuclear plant for the first time following assumption of his office as PM Friday. Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Khalid Shamim Wynne, Khalid Qadwai and other military officers were also present on the occasion.
PM visited different departments of nuclear plant and met the staff members. Military authorities gave detailed briefing to the PM on country’s nuclear program and steps taken for safeguarding nuclear assets.
The PM was told during the briefing that country’s nuclear program is fully secure and an effective and dynamic command and control system is in place. Nuclear arsenals are in safe hands and any possibility of their slipping into wrong hands stands ruled out.

I think we don't need co-operations like these. Rather PM should try to let KRL and PAEC to do JV with Netherland, France, Russia and China on Thorium based reactors that are 100% safe and are good environmentally as they eat up Nuclear Material even the diplatted Uranium too during the proccess.

. .
Pakistan is major US ally after NATO. It has given many sacrifices in the war on terror. We have One of the best command and control system in the world. We are having loss of over 100 billion $$ to our economy. So now we are having energy crisis, it is our fundamental right to acquire civil nuclear technology.... !!!

I love the ideas of your Joint Ventures!!

Every country , at least the one in Free world have a concept and that includes freedom of key institutes from outside interference.

These organizations are run by good management and they are run by Citizens of country

a) They control the oil and gas sector
b) Transportation
c) Minerals and Precious metals
d) Telecommunication
e) Automobile sector
f) Manufacturing sector
Heavy Machinery
Low end Machinery
g) Farming sector
h) Sea Ports

NAWAZ is intent on selling all these sectors to outside investors

When these example items are sold to people from outside the country you are literally selling off your country
meanwhile your own local citizens would be working minimum wages jobs in these organizations.

Joint Ventures are great however the share of ownership of the company should be only10-20% given to any foreign entity while 80% remains in Pakistani Government's hand.

Majority of the Institutional problems in Pakistan can be fixed

a) If workers become more productive
b) Extra work hour is introduced
c) Lower vacation days
d) Controlled hiring in government
e) Biggest element (Prevent best talent in country from leaving country) for 20 years
and your national outlook would change drastically

Will Nuclear Technology solve our problems ?

What are our problems ?

Electricity theft
Old Electrical transmission system that loose electricity / energy
People using electrical units that waste electricity
No management of electricity between Industrial Zones and Residential Zones
In Ability to make "Cheap" free electricity from DAM construction

Lets look at Japan , as example 1 Natural Disaster and they are turning off their nuclear power plants.

So why should we waste effort on Nuclear Technology ?

We can invest that money in

a) Solar
b) Water Dam creation cheap electricity
c) Bio Fuel

.
All countries have the fundamental right to nuclear technology to meet their ENERGY needs. But the moot point is: will Pakistan reprocess the spent fuel for making more nuclear bombs? Simple answer, yes! And that's why the world is apprehensive to provide such technology to Pakistan - except China (naturally!)

.
They should work to develop reactors of thwir own design,if they want to.

.
Firstly we have enough Nuclear bombs to knock out 300-400 countries if we needed. So that is not even debatable.

Our issue is very simple

a) We need to reduce our Local Population 50%
b) We also need to construct 2-3 Water Dam projects size of Terbela Dam

Set up Solar Farms in Balouchistan

Problem solved clean energy in abundance

. .
After sharing tech with Iran & Libya who both betrayed Pakistan its understandable why world is worried. Pakistan will have to wait few more years and show to the world that he is responsible nuclear power.

.
Well sharing Nuclear Technology is not a crime, USA shared the knowledge with Japan or Japan acquired it thru their own means
Similarly Israel got Nuclear Technology some USA again a violation of any share treaty

Plus Pakistan is not member of any treaty (Agaist nuclear knowledge share) so no rules apply to Pakistan

Same with Russia / Britian who got this technology from some source

Meanwhile CERN experiment is yeilding GREATER energies 100-1000 times more then nuclear energy and that is being share by many nations not sure how much Pakistan will get out of that deal ?

This is the whole idea, sell off all the national assets, keep a share of your own in each of these entities. Earn dividend, transfer it to foreign accounts and to enjoy life of a second class citizen in a first class country. Remain clinging to the power in Pakistan and fulfill the dream of becoming Amir ul Momineen. Ensure that all own future generation remain in the power and enslave common man.

Only way state run institutions can be dragged out of their present crisis is by having professional management. Dismiss all political appointees, make board of directors/governors for each institution. The board should comprise of CEOs and directors of corporate (not seth), those should be rotated every 2-3 years with 50% board members rotated at one time. Board should select CEO, CFO and COO according to merit, through public advertisement. These entities should be managed like a corporate with defined objectives and goals for senior management. To raise funds, companies should be declared public limited and shares should be sold to Pakistani's. Rules of floating share should be same like other public limited company where limited shares are offered to individuals.

Technology has its advantages and disadvantages. Nuclear technology is no different. A large amount of money has been spent on nuclear R&D in Pakistan. On one had it serves as deterrent and on the other it can become source of cheapest source of electricity. I dont find any reason to roll back nuclear program, it is about the time we should reap full benefits of the technology. We should now divert more attention on producing nuclear energy and step ahead of pilot projects like KANUP.
Solar technology will not become viable for Pakistan, until solar panels are produced within the country. Solar has pretty high cost of installation, yet it can be very effectively used for powering those villages, which are not in the list of electricity connection for next 100 years. Combination of solar/ wind power should be promoted in domestic use. BTW Pakistan does not have short fall of electricity as far as generation capability is concerned. It is the production which is causing power outages. Pakistan has a capacity of approximately 20,000MW of electricity, which is almost 3000MW more then its requirement.

Pakistan should consider placing smaller power generation units on fast flowing rivers to generate power for surrounding areas.

Dams are very important for energy and agriculture both. If due to political reasons KBD is not materialising, government should look into the aspect of building smaller dams all along the river. If one approach is not workable (rather is being politicised) then what is stopping them to look at alternates. It is understood that more dams will cost more, but waiting for the day when KBD can be made will result in increased cost of construction, while people keep suffering.

You do know what IAEA safeguards are? Our civil reactors(chashnupp and kanupp) are under IAEA safeguard and not a single concern has been shown on them by the international community. Any new NPPs will also be under IAEA safeguards.

.
This is not a question of IAEA safeguards. Just like fracking and many other technologies, civil nuclear technology has been acquired by spending lot of time, effort, money and manpower resources. US has it, we don’t.

US offered it to India in exchange for giving up IPI pipeline project. Besides, Indians don’t hate the US. Indians don’t have PTI who won in KPK on the basis of shooting down US drones; that is virtually fighting the US! We must not also ignore the fact that India is a far more important market for the US companies.

We consider US our biggest enemy and had OBL hiding next to the military academy for 5 years; a fact admitted by Gilani, our then Prime Minister; but many still consider it a drama by the US to shame Pakistan!

How can we expect US to give this technology to us without a ‘Quid pro quo? Are we Allah’ gift to the mankind? My countrymen must understand that there are no ‘Free’ lunches and that realpolitik sucks.
