RAWALPINDI: A high-level meeting comprising top civil and military leadership held at General Headquarters (GHQ) discussed issues pertaining to national security on Tuesday, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said.

Those present at the meeting include Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry, Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif, Director-General Inter-Services Intelligence Maj-Gen Rizwan Akhtar and other senior military officials at GHQ.

The participants underlined that hostile intelligence agencies and their facilitators would not be allowed to "foment trouble inside Pakistan", the ISPR said.

Issues relating to the country's internal and external security, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, were also discussed.

Participants expressed concern over the May 21 US drone strike targeting former Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Mansour in Balochistan, saying it was a clear violation of Pakistan's sovereignty, affected mutual trust and undermined the spirit of the Afghan peace process under the mutually agreed framework decided by the Quadrilateral Coordination Group.

The meeting also took cognisance of ongoing regional developments and inimical designs against the country's stability and prosperity.

The leadership resolved to protect the country's core national interests and effectively counter negative external influence.

The meeting comes as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is recovering from open-heart surgery in London. Nawaz was discharged from the hospital on Monday after a week-long stay following his surgery.

He will be overseeing the affairs of government from London, according to the PM House media cell, and is expected to return to Pakistan before the end of Ramazan.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to enduring regional peace, it was underlined hostile intelligence agencies will not be allowed to foment trouble inside the country.

On May 26, six agents belonging to two networks of Afghan intelligence agency NDS and having involvement in acts of terrorism and targeted killing inside the country, were caught from Quetta.

The arrests had come two months after Indian spy and a serving naval office Kulbhushan Yadav, detained from Balochistan, confessed spy agency RAW’s involvement in the country.

The participants dwelt at length on various issues relating to the external and internal security situation of the country, including the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

No world power can sabotage CPEC: Nisar

The meeting expressed its concern on the US drone strike on May 21, saying it was a clear violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty affecting mutual trust.

The strike also undermined the spirit of Afghan peace process under mutually agreed quadrilateral framework.

It was noted that the success of Operation Zarb-e-Azb had been phenomenal and it was agreed that the achievements in bringing stability in the country will have to be sustained at all costs.

The leadership resolved to protect the core national interests and effectively counter any negative outside influence.

Pakistan may not give India consular access to RAW officer

Federal Ministers Khawaja Asif, Ishaq Dar, Naitonal Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz and Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary attended the meeting.

Earlier on Monday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said some countries were conspiring against the CPEC, but vowed that no world power would be able to sabotage the project.

Chinese ambassador calls on army chief

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong also called on the army chief at the GHQ.

“During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, including regional security and CPEC came under discussion,” the ISPR said.

“The [Chinese] ambassador appreciated Pakistan Army’s achievements and sacrifices for peace and stability in the region.”

Why do they announce things that are so obvious?

What else are we supposed to do?

The DG ISI wants to counter foreign agencies --- but what about internal traitors, like the guy sitting across the table from him? Ishaq Dar did admit to laundering money for the PM in an affidavit if I'm not mistaken. The irony.

I wish our services the best against all internal and external threats --- but we must strengthen ourselves from within to minimize the space/opportunities available to hostile agencies. My 2 cents...

Ishaq Dar gave his clarification on his issue. You should check it.
Such statements are normal practice around the world. it is just a formality to inform the press.

My point is --- after having seen his towers and other goodies in Dubai, which obviously may have come from legitimate sources of money --- there is a big question mark on the integrity of a lot of these people.

As another example, Mush partnered with MQM --- the party that is apparently RAW's local partner in disturbing our largest city and economic lifeline. There is a long list of such instances where traitors are tolerated (or worse) by the Supreme Court and Army High Command.

Our enemies are all around us. If we stop being so lenient with the definition of treason and start punishing the corrupt and the incompetent, we will make it tough for hostile agencies to exploit our weaknesses.

PA & Intel agencies should be given completely free hand to deal Pakistan's internal security & there should be no compromise on this what so ever. Gadari allowed many foreign agencies to run ops in Pakistan & ganja was not serious in solving any of Pakistan's internal issue but Gen. Raheel is & he is keen to eliminate the danger which is working, but the problem is that there are National security risk bastards in political parties who are well protected by the treacherous politicians & this can only be solved once the Army takes over other wise there is no other way & these bastards will continue to harm Pakistan. Achakzai, ANP & MQM are the biggest example of National Security risk.

That is an odd headline and story; considering that many of the civil heads are deeply indebted to foreign intelligence agencies and are cronies if not moles like the many in the military.
