However buying sensitive communication encryption tech from a foreign vendor and being oblivious to a problem for decades shows how backdoors can be exploited.

BTW that company existed for years before it was secretly bought by the CIA and German intelligence and its clients knew nothing. This just shows how a private foreign company that has been vetted by foreign governments can overnight change into a severe security risk.
