@HRK where dose it talk about other religions, it talks about Islam and Islam only, so as I understand, the strict blasphemy laws are to protect Islam and a separate relaxed laws could be there for the protection of other religions.
How many Muslims charged for insulting other religions ? post the data.

blasphemy law is so outdated.. in this internet age... why would you have a law that can be used to created problems for minorities, should not govt make special law to protect minorities instead of making them weak?

.
Let's use our brains...can you do that?

If Christian countries implemented the same standards and vigilantes simply murdered people that were occused of blasphemy then a whole lot of people including Muslims would be put to death.

I still hope they get hanged

Pakistan Penal Code (Act XLV of 1860)
Imran Khan says Pakistan’s blasphemy law is necessary. He says it is a British law and thinks that in its absence, people would be lynched and there would be anarchy. The stern law, therefore, also helps those accused of blasphemy. Is he right? Let us consider the law.Only seven cases of blasphemy were registered in undivided India and Pakistan from 1927 to 1986, according to a group of Pakistani Christians. The National Commission for Justice and Peace says that in the last 25 years, 1,058 cases of blasphemy were registered. Of the accused, 456 were Ahmadis, 449 were Muslims, 132 were Christians and 21 were Hindus.Non-Muslims, who are four per cent of Pakistan’s population, are 57 per cent of those charged with blasphemy. The other aspect is that, by far, the majority of cases are filed in Punjab.India and Pakistan share their penal code, which was given to us by Macaulay in the 1860s. Pakistan’s primary law on blasphemy is the same as India’s law, which*I wrote about yesterday.Pakistan’s section 295-A reads: “Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of the citizens of Pakistan, by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representations insults the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, or with fine, or with both.”Both in India and Pakistan, this law is secular and applies to all faiths. The only significant difference in Pakistan’s law is the punishment, which in India is only three years. In 1982, President Ziaul Haq introduced an ordinance that added a section to this law. Section 295-B reads: “Whoever wilfully defiles, damages or desecrates a copy of the Holy Qur’an or of an extract therefrom or uses it in any derogatory manner or for any unlawful purpose shall be punishable with imprisonment for life.”It is difficult to see what new element this added which was not covered by 295-A, except that it is specifically a law that protects Muslim sensibility, and the punishment is increased.Under prime minister Muhammad Khan Junejo, another addition to the blasphemy law was legislated in 1986. Section 295-C reads: “Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representation or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.”This also was already covered by the original secular law. And again, here the punishment was increased, this time delivering death.Till this change came, the number of blasphemy cases, to remind the reader, was only seven in 60 years. Therefore, Imran Khan is wrong to say the anti-blasphemy law is helpful in keeping peace. The truth is the opposite: Pakistanis have registered so many cases since 1986 because the Islam-specific laws 295-B and 295-C are being deployed. It is often said that property disputes or personal enmity are the reasons for many of these cases, because people can be charged on the basis of hearsay. If this were the case, the law would be misused in India also, which it is not. My view is that it is strong religious sentiment that is the reason why so many Pakistanis are accused of being blasphemers.President Pervez Musharraf said he would look into softening the law, but couldn’t.*Sherry Rehman tried to introduce a change to the law and failed. Why?I would say that it is not possible for the state to bring change over an unwilling population.Punjab’s Muslims have defied the state on religion before. Emperor Bahadur Shah I (Aurangzeb’s son) was unable to get the Lahore Jama Masjid to recite the*khutbabecause the word ‘wasi’ was added by him to the name of the fourth caliph. The*khutba*proclaimed him as head of state and was therefore important as a sign of his sovereignty. The emperor had an angry showdown with four sullen clerics in his tent, demanding they comply. In Bahadur Shah’s view, the additional word was not against any specific Sunni practice. The clerics did not back down and, supported by the Afghans in Punjab, threatened civil war. A crowd of 100,000 civilians gathered to fight the state. In all the rest of India, the*khutba*continued to be read in the prescribed form except in Lahore. The emperor had to back down and finally the*khutba*was read on October 2, 1711, without the word ‘wasi’.There is no chance that the state will be able to undo the two changes to Pakistan’s blasphemy law.Published in The Express Tribune, August 27th, 2012.
Pakistan
so I was right in saying that strict sections in law are added later to protect Islam specially with even stricter punishment.
minorities are only 4% in Pakistan , but they account for 50% of people charged with blasphemy..can you say it just a co incident when this has been evident from past incidents and numerous criticisms, both inside and out side Pakistan, and many failed attempts to reform the law by the pak govt ?

Dear talk in absolute numbers..........It does not matter what you think or I think.....what matter is the ground realities and ground realities are 449 Muslims and 132 Christians and 21 Hindu were charged.......so y play victim card......???

dear can you provide a list of executed personal under this law......???

Now second thing......y some circles want to bring change in this Law.......what purpose would it serve.......third law is not about only 295-B or C.....it include 295 same as Indian and Israeli laws.......so there is nothing wrong in law but the problem is in the hearts and minds of....some bunch of people....

.
I don't like this law because I don't get any justification about blasphemy law in Quran or anywhere in religious books. Islam talks about peace and they implemented blasphemy law. Tell me if I'm wrong that blasphemy law was implemented in reign of Zia.

.
same question should be asked to number of Nations including UK......

Religious freedom is the basic fundamental right of every human being.......without any argument.....my dear....if you read blasphemy laws of different countries they all emphasis on respect of others religion......and respect mean respect.....I really don't understand....y people insult other's faith, religion, set of beliefs, holy places or person......

Y you want them to be hanged.....let the investigation complete.....

your religious freedom allows you to profess and propagate your religion where as my right to free speech allows me to criticize your religion. It will never come to hinder your practice.
UK's blasphemy laws are outdated too, they are never brought against anybody in recent past. But they should go, I agree.

.
Dear talk in absolute numbers..........It does not matter what you think or I think.....what matter is the ground realities and ground realities are 449 Muslims and 132 Christians and 21 Hindu were charged.......so y play victim card......???

what's your source for the data ?

The known blasphemy cases in
Pakistan show that from 1953 to July
2012, there were 434 offenders of
blasphemy laws in Pakistan and
among them were, 258 Muslims
(Sunni/Shia), 114 Christians, 57
Ahmadis, and 4 Hindus.

PAKISTAN: A Historical Overview of Blasphemy Laws
the numbers are disproportionate, minorities represent only 4% of population but they represent half of the offenders, while Muslims which represents 97% of population only comes to 50% of the offenders, you should explain why ??
dear can you provide a list of executed personal under this law......???
why do they need to be executed when you hand over the job to the mob.

52 people have been extra-judicially
murdered, for being implicated in
blasphemy charges. Among these
were 25 Muslims, 15 Christians, five
Ahmadis, one Buddhist and one
Hindu.
Now second thing......y some circles want to bring change in this Law.......what purpose would it serve.......third law is not about only 295-B or C.....it include 295 same as Indian and Israeli laws.......so there is nothing wrong in law but the problem is in the hearts and minds of....some bunch of people....
don't try to lie, only 295-A is the law which is shared by India and Pakistan, which is secular in nature, it talks about all religions and protects every religion equally with reasonable punishment.
295B,295C, 298A, 298B, and 298C
etc are later added by zia, in the name of protecting Islam, with stricter punishments.

.
So only 1 hindu has been killed because of Blasphemy Law in 66 years? Please someone calculate how many years it will take before Pakistan can match Gujrat muslim massacre in numbers.

.
what's your source for the data ?

Read your own post this figures are not posted by me......its what you posted

Again going by your logic who is suffering more.....???

PAKISTAN: A Historical Overview of Blasphemy Laws
the numbers are disproportionate, minorities represent only 4% of population but they represent half of the offenders, while Muslims which represents 97% of population only comes to 50% of the offenders, you should explain why ??

So you want Quota system in implementation of Law....????? ....first u were shy to post absolute figures.....now you are arguing that minorities are 4% of population why are they constructing 50% of charged list......first thing first ........ y they committed the crime.....???

If you take your glasses of communal and religious hatred down you will observe this law is implemented in indiscriminate manner......

why do they need to be executed when you hand over the job to the mob.

52 people have been extra-judicially
murdered, for being implicated in
blasphemy charges. Among these
were 25 Muslims, 15 Christians, five
Ahmadis, one Buddhist and one

So what's your point......unless you are supporting the cause of rigorously implementation of law....so these event could be prevented.....

don't try to lie, only 295-A is the law which is shared by India and Pakistan, which is secular in nature, it talks about all religions and protects every religion equally with reasonable punishment.
295B,295C, 298A, 298B, and 298C
etc are later added by zia, in the name of protecting Islam, with stricter punishments.

Central Government Act Section 295 in The Indian Penal Code

295. Injuring or defiling place of worship, with intent to insult the religion of any class.-- Whoever destroys, damages or defiles any place of worship, or any object held sacred by any class of persons with the intention of thereby insulting the religion of any class of persons or with the knowledge that any class of persons is likely to consider such destruction, damage or defilement as an insult to their religion, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

295 Pakistan Panel Cod

Injuring or defiling place of worship, with Intent to insult the religion of any class: Whoever destroys, damages or defiles any place of worship, or any object held sacred by any class of persons with the intention of thereby insulting the religion of any class of persons or with the knowledge that any class of persons is likely to consider such destruction damage or defilement as an insult to their religion. shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine,or with both.

295- A. Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by

insulting Its religion or religious beliefs:

Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the 'religious feelings of any class of the citizens of Pakistan, by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representations insults the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, or with fine, or with both.

Now who is lying dear...........???BTW technically no law could be term us secular or religious......law is law.....

what is your or people like you have problem with 295-B, 295-C....and BTW 298-B and 298-C was not added by Zia a factual position.....

.
your religious freedom allows you to profess and propagate your religion where as my right to free speech allows me to criticize your religion. It will never come to hinder your practice.

Yes your freedom of speech allow you to criticize or to discuss about my religion but your freedom of speech or expression do not allow you to defame, to insult place of worship, person or object held sacred, or religious feeling of any class of society......

Even if you think you have absolute freedom of expression.....try to insult Queen or Royal family of UK.........if you hold UK nationality will be charged with high treason......

.
Another injustice taking place against a minority community just because of the mullahs. The blasphemy laws or article 298 and 295 of the constitution are a tool to arrest and discriminate against minorities with absolute impunity.

Not only innocent Christians and Hindus are entrapped by this law but also less pious muslims. No one has done anything to do away with these laws. Pakistan needs to be secularized for the benefit of this nation. Terrorists have been using gaps in the constitution to frame innocents. The Rimsha Masih case is still fresh in my mind. The poor girl just had to suffer due to evil mullahs. Taliban are right in our homes, we need to beat the taliban amongst us and fight their mindset.

defamation is dealt in libel laws, I cant defame the imam of east london mosque, let alone queen. I will have to pay if my words were proved wrong.
Insult is a tricky subject, queen has been called old witch, old hag who does not die etc on tv by stand up comedians. Check out ali g show(quite popular british comedy) in which he describes a hostage situation in which a terrorist put a bomb in queen's you-know-where.

Similarly attacking mosque or doing anything that stops you from practicing your faith is illegal.
However not hurting your belief is a tricky thing, people get insulted for minutest of thing, the range literally starts from zero tolerance level.

I hold the right to criticize your religious practice, so do you, criticizing an idea does not have any victim. We criticize many ideas, why should religion be treated as such 'special' subject to be dealth with care.
