The Raspberry Pi popularized the idea of the micro-PC with a compact and a very low cost computer. Now a brand new participant, Next Thing‘s CHIP, joins the race to construct the world’s cheapest computer. CHIP is a completely functional Linux-powered computer and is nearly one-quarter the size of a banana and one-quarter the price of the Raspberry Pi. Yes, really it’s just Nine Dollars!

To minimize down the price, CHIP packs a 1GHz Allwinner R8 Cortex A8 processor with a built-in Mali400 GPU, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of flash storage. It additionally encompasses a micro USB port, composite headphone/mic port, Wifi and Bluetooth. All of which is powered by attaching a LiPo battery, DC power, or via the micro USB. The hardware is powerful enough to operate LibreOffice, the Chromium browser, and an entire host of video games and applications to teach programming.

Is it trusted to open online account and trade?

Sure it is, it has a asset size of a moderate $300 million. There are much better funds though. We're investing almost Rs 100,000 a month in a bunch of diversified fund.

Hmm, the price they quote on that link is INR, right? So basically a 12% annualized return means that percentage growth at the end of the year?
Sorry i am not into mutual funds so it gets confusing

Yup, I'm concentrating on PhD, so don't have time to track on equities. Therefore investing in some high quality mutual funds to save some money.

Right, okay so one last question, some of those show a 20% plus annualized return....i mean...that is insane return.....what is the drawback?

and you doing the PhD at the same place?

I got a better offer from the University of Utah, in the field of Semiconductor Photonics. $20000/yr dean's fellowship and $18000/9 months for TA.

20 is a very moderate return for equities, I'm holding a bond UTI MNC fund with more than 40% return last year.

man.. you need to add disclaimer too.. past performance does not guarantee future returns.. over longer term it wont be 40% annual return besides India has high inflation, your money is losing value faster(than UK).. @Donatello
