BEIJING: Chinese Vice-President Li Yuanchao on Friday said his country wishes to "properly handle issues left over from history" and would like to make "joint efforts to expand strategic mutual trust" with India.
Li was speaking at the Republic Day functionorganized by the Indian Embassy in Beijing as the two countries celebrate 2014 as the India-China Year of Friendly Exchanges.
China firmly follows the principle of developing friendship and partnership with neighbours, and wants to take strategic partnership with India to a new height, Li said.
Indian ambassador Ashok K Kantha said India was keen to build on strong foundations of friendship and the five principles of 'Panchsheel' continues to be the guiding light for the relationship. "The world needs both countries to prosper together as friends and partners, supportive of each other's aspirations," he said.
