Crossing thousands of mountains and waters, from Xinjiang to Wuhan, the identity of Kurbanjan·Taiwu Keli continues to change: from Uighurs from rural areas to students from Wuhan University, to general manager of Wuhan Tarim Halal Food Management Company. He has gone through 13 years of hard yet inspirational experiences.
In 2001, Kurbanjan was admitted to Wuhan University and became a Uyghur student in the class. His new life in Wuhan began, but the school's halal restaurant made him very uncomfortable, because the chef is a Han Chinese, the supply variety is not much, and the taste is not authentic.
In 2003, after listening to their voices, the school hired a Uighur chef from Xinjiang. But the chef left Wuhan because he was inconvenient in language communication and stayed away from home.
Kurbanjan’s whim: “Can I take over the halal restaurant at the school?”
After a meal survey by students, in December 2004, the school allowed senior student Kubanjiang to take over the halal restaurant of the Wuda Institute of Engineering.
For Kurbanjan, he was the first college student in the family. Mom and Dad expected him to become a respected electric engineer and return to work in his hometown. In order to make Uighur students eat better and more convenient and host a halal restaurant, it seems that there is something wrong with it. As a result, he began to stare at his family. After inviting four Uighur chefs from Xinjiang, Kurbanjan began to deal with the kitchen every day.
Although he is a Xinjiang native, he can only eat. Even if he knows how to do it, it does not mean that he can manage the restaurant. At the beginning, there was no concept of cost accounting, and the personnel training cost was large. As a result, after one and a half months of operation, the loss was 17,000 yuan, and even the chef’s salary could not be afforded.
At this time, Kurbanjan had to ask for help from the family. He still remembers that his mother cried on the phone and promised to give him 20,000 yuan. This is not a small amount, which is equivalent to the annual income of the rural family in Xinjiang at that time.
In the winter vacation of 2014, Kurbanhan stayed in Wuhan and went to other canteens in the school to “learn the classics” and consulted his experienced seniors to reflect on his own shortcomings.
What makes him happy is that the restaurant has finally turned a profit and earned two or three thousand yuan. At this time, the reputation of “Wu Xinjiang flavor, delicious and not expensive” of Wu Da Halal Restaurant was also spread to other colleges and universities through college students.
In 2006, Kurbanjan was invited to take charge of a halal window at Huazhong Normal University. Since then, he has started the chain operation of his halal restaurant and has opened stores in other universities.
In February 2010, Kurbanjani opened six halal restaurants in Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Wuhan Institute of Business and Technology, and Hubei University of Technology. On March 2 of the same year, he registered “Wuhan Tarim Halal Food Management Service Co., Ltd.” to obtain a business license with a registered capital of 300,000 yuan.
The Kubanjiang company opened 17 halal restaurants in 12 universities in Hunan and Hubei provinces. Among the more than 180 employees, about half have more than 10,000 teachers and students a day.
Next step, he is still building his own industrial chain, plans to organize a central kitchen processing plant, research and development of more varieties of semi-finished halal food, hoping to be distributed to major supermarkets.
