Chinese tourists are opting out of travel to the US in favor of the rest of the world

China tourist spots are way too crowded and thus even the Chinese travel overseas to avoid the crowd. I went to Jiuzhaigou during off-peak periods and even then it's people mountain people sea. It's hard to capture a photo without anyone in it.

I was at Zhuhai earlier this year and I crossed over to Macau. 拱北口岸。Boy, crossing the custom is like going to war. It's a massive sea of people moving around. Even when you walk in the same direction, everyone's walking so fast that you feel you will get pushed away or fall down if you walk leisurely.

China is indeed the most populous country in the world, it's one of the few times I see so much people congregated and moving around. As a young man crossing the border it's exciting for me, but for my older relatives they feel stressful. My Aunt looked at me and said to me, "You're lucky. You could've been one of them crossing the border everyday".

自2011年,拱北口岸打破罗湖口岸的记录,成为全球最高出入境人次的出入境口岸,年均出入境人次达9400万[2]

Depends on where you go, some part of China you may drive for days without seeing any human settlements.

Yeah places like Xinjiang, Tibet, Gansu and Qinghai. Would love to visit these places one day but as a foreigner it's unlikely for me to drive for days without visiting any cities.

Places which generate tourism receipts are actually still big cities where people spend, shop and fine dining. You can be sure that places like Beijing and Shanghai receives the most international tourism receipts instead of Lijiang, Jiuzhaigou, Zhangjiajie or Xi'an.

Their choice..

Although I have the sneaking suspicion that birth tourism won’t be going down anytime soon.
