Donation of 1 million metric tonnes of rice is a huge amount which roughly translates into 350-500 million dollars, if I have to guesstimate.

Sri Lanka's rice consumption is 3.25 million metric tonnes. 1 million tonnes are enough for 4 months.

China has agreed to provide one million metric tonnes of Rice to Sri Lanka as a donation, Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Trade said today (January 19).

China is making the donation to mark the 70th anniversary of the Rubber-Rice Pact signed between Sri Lanka and the People’s Republic of China in 1952.

The consignment of Rice will be delivered to Sri Lanka before the month of April, Minister Bandula Gunawardena noted.

Do you know what is the most important requirement of the USA in the trade negotiations between trump and China? China is required to significantly increase its purchase of grain from the USA.
We are forced by the USA to hoard food, otherwise the USA will crush our economy. We are very afraid, so we can only obey Trump's orders.



BTW: Most poor countries are agricultural countries, and they depend on grain exports for foreign exchange, rising food prices will bring additional income to these countries.

Disregard the retarded take to try to shame Chinese, the largest population on earth, for "jacked up" global prices of rice, when the USA and UK alone spend more on global rice imports than China and both the USA and UK increased spending more than China, since China is actually producing much of its own rice, even if an ounce of the garbage you spew was true, thats still not what you call hypocrisy.

Assuming the entire premise of this story is true, China donating a significant amount of food to Sri Lanka is not a false claim or pretense. Not returning, not paying back, but donating. Its the reality. Hypocrisy would be if China would only claim to care and claim to be supportive of Sri Lankas, but not uphold to these standards by for example doing the opposite or nothing at all. You know, sort of like you do, just to excuse another pathetic cheap shot at China.

It's not a publicity stunt when they're donating 1,000,000 tonnes of rice. It's a publicity stunt if they're only donating say, 10 tonnes of rice, which they aren't.

In many cases China buys lots of foreign food and crops is not because there is a need, China does it to balance the trade with some western countries, cause they don't produce much other than farm products , China can only buy lots of food from them to ease the gaping trade imbalance a little bit, thus now China ends up with this much of food being stored in the country.
