Chinese threat to Bollywood’s film factory

Korea has good movies like "Train to Busan". Wandering Earth doesn't come anywhere next to Train to Busan.

Thanks for the recommendation. About ten years ago I used to watch various world cinema and serials ( mostly British ). One was the USSR film Stalker by the director Andrei Tarkovsky. A long philosophical film where sometimes I felt like sleeping yet at the same time wanted to keep watching. Another film of his, Solaris, which I wanted to watch was always on the wait list.

Why Chinese highest grossing film is only 5 star out of 10 on imbd ? Lots of 1 star reviews. calling it CCP propaganda.

Same story on Google, most Chinese seem to love it, Rest of the world and some Chinese seems to hate it.

Almost no one in the mid stars or moderate views.

I remind Indians: Chinese films are threatening Hollywood's position, not Bollywood. Chinese films and Bollywood have never been at the same level.

Why do Indians always think Bollywood is better than Chinese films? Don't you have any shame?

The total box office of global film history ranks among the top 100, with 4 films in China, which is the best country except Hollywood. How many are there in Bollywood? None!

China has 22 films with a box office of more than 2 billion CNY (22.67 billion INR). How many are there in Bollywood? None!

I recommend the film <The Wandering Earth>, which is one of the representative works of Chinese films. It ranks 5th at the box office of Chinese historical films, with a box office of 4.7 billion CNY.

The issue is that Chinese film cater almost only to Chinese audience in China . They have little to no box office revenue outside China to be honest. So China's movie industry doesn't compete with the US. Since US target audience is global and is made to cater to a global audience while China's is more local.

Maybe because the movie was nothing more than a political movie made for CCP I guess. So people associate it more with propaganda than anything else.

This thread is a joke. Reality is that the Chinese film industry and Bollywood are fighting for scraps and are midgets compared with the colossus of Hollywood. The only thing close to Hollywood would be South Korea's media industry, in terms of global appeal, and even then, it's only a pale sidekick that was given its blessing by the Hollywood elite.

Yeah, I don't get these Chinese posters bragging about having huge box offices. Yeah, if your country has 1.4 billion, you're going to have a huge box office. The huge sales of these Chinese movies only tell me about the rapid development of China's movie and theater going industries, but it really does nothing as far as being a tool of influence globally.

I read the title and thought Indians have started to watch more Chinese films now. Who cares! Bollywood is strictly Indian. It's made for us and in our languages. With Netflix and Prime, more people watch content from all around the world. Korean shows are doing much better and probably more famous than any Chinese ones that I have heard.

Indians can watch anything. We love Bollywood but we can watch Chinese, Pakistani or korean with no insecurities.

IDK, it went to shit. Yeah it certainly had a glory age. I think it was the first Asian media machine that got popular worldwide even before the Koreans and Japanese.

Business go to where money is. The sheer size of Chinese movie market will be noted by all in the industry.

Sure dude. China is straight up autistic when it comes to protecting its image and communicating with foreign cultures, so my hopes are not high. It will just continue to be the target of fake news and smear campaigns by the Anglos.
