By the way the, news argue that he contacted the relevant Indian officials but did not receive a respond until today.
Sorry but that is bogus detail as Indian government had initiated the dispatch procedure far more earlier than reported in Chinese government controlled media. Anyways I am personally happy that somebody will be happy after visiting their home after so much time. However there is some issues in back of mind that he might stay their leading to dislocation of his Indian family due to reasons unknown to me. Just a doubt nothing else.

This is what I got from your linked source from The Financial Express.

"“My father faced a lot of hardships, wanting to go to China. He tried very hard and even entered into correspondence with the then Prime Ministers but in vain,” he said.

According to Vishnu, Wang also moved a plea in Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2009 for going to China without success."

The last time I checked The Financial Express wasn't controlled by the Chinese government. Am I wrong?

This is not your dim-witted Indian forum, so spare us your BS. Indian media reported he was denied a permit to leave India.

He asked for permission from Indian government to leave India since year 1986(even his son writed letters to Indian PM),the Indian government at all level just ignored his request and didn't give him any form of feedback. Until BBC's report, they can't cover it anymore.

Veteran held in India for 54 years allowed to return

After being held in India for 54 years, Chinese veteran Wang Qi was ready to make his long-awaited trip back home on Saturday.

According to the Chinese embassy in India, 77-year-old Wang had left his home in central India's Madhya Pradesh and arrived in New Delhi on Friday afternoon.

He was eager to return to hometown in Shaanxi province and would start the journey as early as Saturday, said the embassy.

In 1963, Wang, a Chinese army surveyor, got lost, crossed the border and was captured by Indian authorities. He was moved from one jail to another for nearly seven years.

When he was finally released in 1969, police escorted him to the remote village of Tirodi in Madhya Pradesh and told him to start a life there. He married a local woman, and they had three children and grandchildren.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Monday that China had been "pushing India" to complete procedures to return the veteran. In 2013, the Chinese embassy in India issued him a 10-year Chinese passport and a living allowance every year since then, Lu said.

Vikas Swarup, the Indian External Affairs Ministry's spokesman, said on Thursday, "The ministry is helping Wang and his family members-including his son Vishnu Wang, daughter Anita Wankhede, daughter-in-law Neha Wang and grandson Khanak Wang-to visit China to meet his extended family."

"We are working with the Chinese embassy in Delhi and the Indian embassy in Beijing to ensure that all formalities are completed and arrangements are in place," he said.

A China Central Television report on Friday said that Wang is eager to taste noodles, a local specialty in Shaanxi, after arriving home.

Wang's plight was highlighted last month in a special report by the BBC.

On Feb 4, Luo Zhaohui, China's ambassador to India, spoke by telephone with Wang and expressed sympathy over his suffering over the years. Yan Xiaoce, a counselor at the Chinese embassy in India, visited Wang's village on the same day, according to the embassy.

Liu Shurong, another Chinese veteran, underwent the same plight as Wang and lives in the same village. But Liu said he had no intention to return to China because he no longer has family there, the embassy said.

Welcome home, veteran!

The problem is your "question" is so bizarre that nobody in his right mind would even take it as a legitimate question. Who planted this idea in your mind that Chinese would be jailed if they have 2nd kid, your government or your media? A brain capable of critical thinking is a good thing to have.

To answer your "question", the "one child" policy was started in 1980's. It was carried out more in cities than in rural area, but in public sectors it was enforced (monetary fine, lost CPC membership, demotion) . In HAN rural area, one-child was "encouraged", 2nd kid was allowed. if one insist to have 3rd kid, local officers might give him some hard time, or impose a penalty, in some extreme cases there were forced abortions, but I have never heard that people were sent to jailed because of violating "one child" policy. There are still millions of families managed to have 3, 4, or even more kids without facing penalty. I do have sibling , and no one in my family was punished whatsoever.

One-Child policy has never applied to ethnic minorities, either in cities or in rural area.
you are wasting time responding to a malicous RSS troll

Welcome to the largest developing country on earth, veteran compatriot!

In Mainland, you will witness breakneck development, hygiene, and efficient public management.

Mods, could you please clean the trash amassed on this thread? Regards.

Younger generation suddenly have an opportunity to know about 1962 border war that victors don't bother to talk about but the losers have been bi***ing about for all 54 years.

Spare us your dirty lie. He was not allowed to leave the India. His case was reported by Indian media and BBC.

"It's still not clear whether Mr Wang is a prisoner of war. But he has been denied official Indian documents or citizenship and also been denied permission to travel back. His family says Mr Wang needs a document to exit India."

Ever since he had a chance to contact the Embassy, the procedural work between the two governments for his travel were ongoing.

Before his contact, it would be impossible to ascertain his whereabouts.

He has arrived at local airport. Chinese media's are filled with the welcoming ceremony. Relatives, former squad leader, and a whole brunch of unrelated folks showed up at the airport.
