Chinese President Xi Jinping turns to rap music to spread state propaganda
He features as an animated figure in a short music video to address the country’s most pressing problems.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has embraced rap music to promote state reform. State broadcaster China Central Television produced a short music video, featuring “state-approved” rapper Wu Wenduo. Xi himself makes an appearance in the video, albeit as an animated figure, with excerpts taken from some of his speeches.

“Let the people’s wish become our action,” the Chinese leader says at one point. “Only the daring will prevail at key stages of reform,” he adds later. Xi’s hip-hop debut is the latest attempt by the ruling Communist Party to use contemporary music to portray a more modern face,reportedThe Guardian. The party, which was founded in 1921, has ruled China since 1949.

The video commemorates the second anniversary of the Central Leading Group for Comprehensively Deepening Reforms, which is headed by Xi. It directly addresses current pressing matters in the country such as pollution and corruption among government officials.

Wow, I can't decide what's coming closer to propaganda. This one MV, or the various media outlets reporting on this one MV.

Thanks to the fact that it is almost impossible to find an immaculately impartial narrative in reporting controversial issues, especially the Syrian Civil War, the South China Sea conflict, the Ukraine crisis etc., the meaning of 'propaganda' is, in my book, put into perspective. We see people dismiss statements as 'propaganda' when they avoid commenting on it for the sake of saving face, regardless of whether these statements are actually true or not.

To my mind however, Russian media outlets for instance, are much more balanced in reporting news than Western MSM.
