Chinese navy hospital ship Peace Ark arrived in southeastern Bangladesh port city Chittagong on Tuesday to start one-week goodwill visit and medical service to the local people.

A red cross was seen on the hospital ship which was easy to differentiate it from many other ships anchored at the jetty.

Peace Ark left China on August 31 to set out the mission code named "Harmonious Mission-2010".

The hospital ship visited Djibouti, Kenya, Tanzania and the Seychelles after providing medical services to the Chinese navy escort fleet in the Gulf of Aden and the Somali waters.

Bangladesh is Peace Ark's last stop of visit. Wang Zhiguo, the assistant commander of East China Sea Fleet who came from China to receive the hospital ship, told Xinhua the visit has proved the good wishes to establish harmonious world and harmonious sea.

Bangladesh navy held a welcome ceremony for the Chinese hospital ship. Many Chinese living in Bangladesh also came to express their regards to the crew of the hospital ship.

Bangladesh Industries Minister Dilip Barua said that he thanked China for choosing Bangladesh as a destination for the goodwill visit by the hospital ship.

Barua believed the visit will further strengthen the cooperation and friendship between the two countries and the two navies.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Xianyi said the hospital ship's visit to Bangladesh showed the Chinese government attached importance to the cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

Zhang is confident the visit will further promote the fraternal friendship between China and Bangladesh.

Barua had a check up in the ship which was a new experience for him.

Peace Ark has a 10,000-ton capacity with 428 crew members aboard.

Peace Ark will leave Bangladesh on Nov. 15 for China

Chinese hospital ship arrives at Ctg

Chinese navy hospital ship &#8216;Peace Ark&#8217; arrived at Chittagong city on Monday for a week-long goodwill visit when its specialist doctors would provide free medical service onboard to local people and soldiers.
The 300-bed floating hospital is equipped with modern and traditional Chinese medical facilities.

Commissioned in December 2008, the hospital ship has a medical crew of 102 including 46 doctors and is equipped with CT, Doppler Ultrasound, automatic biochemical analyzer, operation theatres, burns ward and bacteria-free ward.

It has intensive care (ICU) facilities.

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu was present during the reception on its arrival at the New Mooring Terminal&#8217;s jetty 5.

He thanked Chinese navy for the &#8216;generous endeavour&#8217; through which he said &#8220;the existing friendly relations of two countries would be strengthen&#8221; apart from sharing of experiences and information.

This is the second visit of the ship.

On its first visit in November 2010, more than 3200 patients were treated and 173 received health check-ups and 23 underwent surgical procedures.

This year&#8217;s visit is the part of the &#8216;Mission Harmony 2013&#8217; of Chinese navy to &#8220;advocate China&#8217;s philosophy of harmonious world and harmonious ocean&#8221;.

According to the Chinese embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh would be the only country among the eight Asian countries under the mission that the hospital ship visited twice.
Bangladesh Navy will coordinate the Peace Ark&#8217;s mission and doctors onboard will see at least 300 patients every day.

The ship will also send medical team to local Navy Patenga Hospital, Ash Alor and Navy Primary School for medical services.

Medical specialists from Bangladesh Navy will also accompany the Peace Ark staff during free medical camps.

The Peace Ark began its four-month mission on June 10 and came to Bangladesh after sailing in Brunei, the Gulf of Aden, Maldives, Pakistan and India.

The ship is nearly three times the size of the largest ship of Bangladesh Navy.

It will leave Bangladesh on Aug 25 and sail to Indonesia and Cambodia before wrapping up the mission on Oct 6.

Yet again China being there for us, hope we can build a couple of similar ships and a few low draft riverine versions, to take the hospital to places were they don't have a fully equipped hospital.
