The Chinese delegation led by the deputy commander of the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) Western Theater Command Lt Gen Liu Xiaowu arrived in New Delhi on Monday and held talks with counterparts in the Indian army, including vice chief Lt Gen Devraj Anbu. The high-level military talks were the first since the Donglang border standoff last summer.

“China is willing to work together with the India side to earnestly implement the consensus of the leaders of the two countries about the development of bilateral relations, accumulate strategic trust, promote win-win cooperation, effectively manage and control differences, maintain border stability, and ensure the sound development of the relations between the two militaries,” Senior Colonel Wu Qian, Director General of the Information Office of China's Ministry of National Defense (MND), said last Thursday during a media briefing on the delegation’s visit to India.

'Significant step forward'

On Monday, China’s Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui hosted the Chinese military officers after their arrival in the Indian capital. “Met with senior officers of the Western Theater Command, who will meet with their Indian counterparts to promote strategic trust and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two militaries,” Luo said in a post on his official Twitter account.

On Tuesday, the 10-member Chinese delegation arrived in Sukna, in India’s eastern state of West Bengal, where Lt Gen Liu led the Chinese side in talks with counterparts from Indian Army Eastern Command’s 33 Corps led by Lt Gen Abhay Krishna. Sukna is the headquarters of 33 Corps which is tasked with guarding India's border with China and Bhutan around the Donglang region.

The talks were focused on confidence-building measures.

“This visit by the Chinese military delegation to the military headquarters at Sukna is a significant step forward towards increasing interactions at military commander’s level and implementation of various agreements to maintain peace and tranquility on the borders,” said a media release from the Indian Army’s Kolkata-headquartered Eastern Command.

The Chinese delegation is scheduled to be hosted at Fort Williams on Thursday and leave India the following day.

Military hotline, joint drills

The current visit is also being seen as an opportunity to revive the talks of establishing a military hotline between the two commands, according to Indian media reports.

The proposal, first made in 2012, was nearly agreed upon by both the sides in April 2016 during then Indian defense minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to China, New Delhi-based ThePrint.in news portal reported. But the idea went into cold storage after India signed a logistics support agreement with the US as well as the Donglang standoff last year, the report added

This round of dialogue could further pave the way for joint India-China army exercises that have been held every alternate year since they began in 2007.

In another sign of thawing equation between the two militaries, soldiers from both sides participated in a special border yoga session to mark International Yoga Day last month, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense revealed.

“Speaking of the China-India border defense cooperation… [on) June 21 International Yoga Day this year, the border defense soldiers from China and India held a meeting to practice yoga together. Besides, the Chinese officers and soldiers also demonstrated Chinese martial arts for the Indian soldiers,” MND spokesperson Senior Colonel Wu Qian said.

“I expect more extensive friendly cooperation between the two sides and accumulation of mutual trust so that we can maintain peace and stability along the borders and fully implement important consensus reached by leaders of the China and India,” he added.

Actually, it’s great that China and India is developing the relationship between the countries. The #1 concern should be the female soldier as she will be sexually harassed or assaulted.

From Indian side, the concern will be what to call China's peripheral island. Does that island off the eastern coast of China be called a province or a nation? They like to call themselves Taiwan but then they are usually called a rouge province.

True. To be more precise, not Brahmin type. India regard Chinese as an inferior people. Where as Europeans as high caste people. That being said, many Indians would still harassed East Asian girls as from the Hong Kong metro incident last year when a HK grandpa beat up three Indian brothers for harassed his granddaughter. Indians are spreading their pervsion through its perverts.

A high level delegation of the Chinese army has reached the Sukna Military Camp in Siliguri on Tuesday. The delegation came here only recently after the agreement between the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping decided in Wuhan that they start a new chapter of mutual relations in the Summit.

The 10-member delegation of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) led by Lieutenant General Li Chiuvo, deputy commander of China’s West Theater Command, was received a grand reception here.

According to the Ministry of Defense sources, this delegation will discuss the various issues in details with the Indian Army equivalent officers in Siliguri (at 33 core headquarters in Sukna). In the commander-level dialogue with the Chinese military delegation in Sukna, the Indian delegation will be led under the leadership of Lt Gen Pradeep M Bali, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Trishakti Corps.

The Chinese military delegation, who arrived on the West Bengal tour from July 3 to 6, will reach Kolkata’s Eastern Army Command headquarters on July 5.

In a bid to devise confidence-building measures, India showcases Bofors gun system to Chinese delegation

In 1986, India signed a Rs 1,437-crore deal with Swedish arms manufacturer AB Bofors for the supply of 400 155 mm Howitzer guns for the Army.

NEW DELHI: In what can be dubbed as enhancing confidence building measure, the Indian Army on Thursday showcased its stable of Bofors gun system to the visiting Chinese military delegation at Sevoke military station in West Bengal.

According to sources in the defence establishment, "the Chinese PLA delegations were shown the Bofors guns." In 1986, India signed a Rs 1,437-crore deal with Swedish arms manufacturer AB Bofors for the supply of 400 155 mm Howitzer guns for the Army.

In the late 1980s, Bofors deal rocked the then government-led by Rajiv Gandhi after a radio channel in Sweden stated that certain Indian politicians and the defence personnel were bribed by the Swedish armaments firm to bag the deal.

An eight-member high-level Chinese military delegation, led by deputy commander of Western Theatre Command (WTC) Lt Gen Liu Xiaowu visited Sevoke Military Station as part of their two-day visit to Trishakti Corps.

Station commander Brigadier Abhinaya Rai received them and took them on a windshield tour of the station.

During their stay at the station, the delegates witnessed training activities of the soldiers, followed by a display of Artillery Guns.

Later, they had informal interaction with GOC of Striking Lion formation Maj Gen M K Sagoch.

The visit assumes importance for the troops of both the nations after an informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at Wuhan two months ago had agreed to give guidance to their respective military establishments.

The visit by Chinese military delegation is also seen as a significant step towards increasing interactions at a high level.

Why show a decades old system ? Won't even send a message .
Chinese are a asute people . If they feel conflict with India will favour them , all these confidence building measures will go in the dustbin.
Indian actions swing like the pendulum from one extreme to the other .
Bloody the Chinese face by occupying their claimed territory and after a year invite their generals to have a look around.
Indians don't seem to understand that everyone can't be your friend and you have to take a stand to defend your point of view.
