Reported Chinese military base in Afghanistan motivated by BRI expansion; China’s greater involvement in peace process likely

Chinese media, with a track record of reliable sources in the Chinese government, reported on 28 August that China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) had begun constructing a military base in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province.

The base will be located along the Wakhan Corridor, a narrow strip of territory bordering China’s Xinxiang province, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. Quoting unnamed PLA sources, the reports claimed that China planned to deploy several hundred soldiers to the base once construction is completed to assist the Afghan government’s counterterrorism efforts, but no time frame was outlined. Neither the Chinese nor Afghan government has formally confirmed the reports.

.
Are Jane sure of the exact location of the base? I am sure the base is inside Chinese territory instead of what they claim as inside afganistan.

.
A foreign military base in Afghanistan? Are they looking for trouble? The Afghans have a way of bringing empires to thier knees. The Chinese should know better.

Janes is claiming it inside Afghanistan however Chinese claim it on their own territory.

Chinese aren't that daft that they'll jump straight into a war zone.

I can name more dynasties if this list is not satisfactory. I haven't even mentioned the dynasties from Pakistan that have conquered large portions of Afghanistan.

.
Check in the last 200 years.

They're not British, Soviet or American. They won't be Chinese either. We must be careful not to replace one colonial master with another. Under no circumstances is a foreign military base in Afghanistan acceptable, unless it was welcomed by a legitimate Afghan government.

Replace? You’re saying that as if american british and in general nato troops doesnt currently occupy that trash country? Somehow China a neighbor is seen as a colonial master butnot people from miles away?

Pakistanis are always in the forefront when it comes to propagating this myth, you can always see Pakistanis on social media demanding Americans to leave as "afghans have never been conquered " " the venom of cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the afghan".. I think Pakistanis believe in this myth more than the Afghans themselves.

Lol you talk as if they're not resisting the American invaders.

No invaders are welcome in sovereign lands.

That's because many of us are Pashtuns who take pride in thinking they are "unconquered people". It's ridiculous, everyone has been conquered at some point in time, and if that's never happened, you're probably not living somewhere very nice.

Check in the last 200 years.

The British (along with some troops from British India) conquered Kabul, imprisoned it's ruler, killed thousands of Afghans, and established the Durrand line.

The myth was propogated by the Afghans after the third anglo-afghan conlfict. They also continue to edit wikipedia articles trying to affirm this myth to this day - but that is the extent of the true potency of "Afghan Venom".

Afghans have been invaded and completely subdued by multiple invasions, the Hazaras are a testament to a particularly brutal one. But even in the last 200 years or rather with the Afghanistan Emirate has sufferred invasions and eventual turnings into Vassal states- one only has to read the shameful records of Afghanistan during the British Invasion to see this myth being pointless.

A more embarassing situation is that the "Afghans" have never really been able to govern in a stable state for more than 30 years without having someone either dictate their policies or being fragmented.

What it does enforce that Afghans or Mongols, leadership and management is what gets nations ahead - not percieved national "genetic personas".

As for right now, we need to let the Chinese get as much inlfuence in Afghanistan as possible, let heavy equipment fly in and soon Bagram will have a rival.

The offset of this will be ISIS suddenly becoming more active in Afghanistan and then our western border becoming aflame again. Strict border control is essential to Pakistani security.
