The Qoros 3 saloon has achieved the highest crash test score of 2013 under Euro NCAP standards.

The car has also become the first from a Chinese-based brand to achieve five stars in crash testing, and is among the highest scoring cars ever tested by Euro NCAP.

Qoros' 3 Saloon received praise for its robust passenger cell, as well as its passive safety equipment. The car scored 95 per cent for Adult Occupant safety, 77 per cent for pedestrian safety and 81 per cent for safety assistance systems - a new category in the Euro NCAP tests for this year.

Volker Steinwascher, Vice Chairman of Qoros, said: “The safety of our vehicles was one of our key development goals from the start. It’s a crucial demonstration that our customers are the most important consideration and it also says a great deal about the engineering integrity of the car as a whole."

The testers also praised the 3's child restraint safety, where it scored 87 per cent, partly thanks to the use of Isofix seat anchoring points alongside top tether hooks and a standard passenger airbag disconnect switch.

Combined, the results gave the 3 saloon an overall rating of 88 per cent, which is equivalent to five stars.

qoros 3

The Qoros 3 has become the first Chinese car to achieve the maximum five-star crash test rating from EuroNCAP.

The European crash test authority awarded the Qoros 3 the top score, describing it as “a significant step up from previous Chinese exports tested by EuroNCAP”.

It didn’t simply scrape through on a technicality, either. EuroNCAP says the Qoros scored the highest results of all models tested so far in 2013 - outdoing models such as the Mazda6, Lexus IS and Honda CR-V.

The Qoros 3 is the first Chinese car to achieve a five-star safety rating in Euro NCAP’s assessment. It didn’t just scrape in either: Euro NCAP says it is among the best that they have ever tested:azn:. The Qoros 3 is a brand-new small family car on a brand-new platform developed by its own engineers from a clean sheet of paper – and it’s better than vehicles by some of Europe’s most respected car companies.

It’s a massive achievement. Most mature car companies can deliver five-star performance but there are still occasional surprises. We’ve seen vehicles launched this year by Renault and Mercedes, both respected on safety, which produced far less convincing safety ratings.

With an experienced team of engineers and executives recruited from Europe and the US, Qoros knew that anything less than a five-star rating would be a bad start for the brand. (Read more about the European safety experts recruited by Qoros). http://www.carsafetyrules.com/qoros-...star-car/0925/

People are only too happy to find fault with Chinese cars. There is nothing to fault the Qoros 3 from a safety perspective. The small family car has done well in all areas of Euro NCAP’s assessment. The car scored 95% for adult occupant, 87% for child protection and 77% for pedestrian protection. Its safety assist score is 81%. The only small family car with better scores across the board is the Volvo V40. It compares well with the VW Golf and the Mercedes A-Class tested last year.

Prices will start well below 20,000 Euros, but the Qoros 3 will initially only sell in Slovakia. It’s one thing to achieve a five-star rating, another to build the kind of sales and servicing network you need to compete in Germany or the UK. If Qoros can get a foothold in Eastern Europe and establish their reputation among consumers there, the plan is to come west.

From the few conversations I’ve had with them, they sound serious. They say the five-star result isn’t just a one-off statement, that future models will continue to deliver safety to rival the best brands. They are also preparing to introduce crash avoidance technologies, such as autonomous emergency braking.

Qoros didn’t exist five years ago. To achieve this level of performance in their safety so quickly, starting from nothing, takes a lot of money, a lot of dedication and hard work. It’s a brand worth watching.
