Chinese Huawei Executive Is Charged With Espionage in Poland

Polish authorities detained and charged the local sales director of Huawei Technologies Co., a Chinese national, for conducting high-level espionage on behalf of China, amid widening global scrutiny by Washington and its allies of the technology giant.

The arrest is another bombshell for Huawei, following the early December detention of the company’s chief financial officer in Canada, at the U.S.’s request, on charges related to Iranian sanctions. Unlike those allegations, the nature of the charges in Poland speak directly to suspicions by Washington and other Western governments that Huawei could be used by Beijing as a global spying tool.

For years, Washington has labeled Huawei a national security threat, saying it could be forced by China to use its knowledge of the telecommunications equipment it sells around the world to tap into, or disable, foreign communications networks. Huawei has denied that forcefully through the years. Part of its defense has been that it hadn’t been implicated in overseas spying allegations.


Officers of Poland’s counterintelligence agency this week searched the local Huawei office, leaving with documents and electronic data, as well as the home of the Chinese national, Poland’s state-owned broadcaster reported Friday. The individual wasn’t named, but was identified as a graduate of one of China’s top intelligence schools, as well as a former employee of the Chinese consulate in the port city of Gdansk.

As part of the same investigation, Poland’s Internal Security Agency also detained one of its own former officials, a Polish citizen who was deputy head of the agency’s IT security department. That person, who wasn’t publicly identified, had knowledge of the inner workings of the Polish government’s encrypted communications network, which is used by its top officeholders, the broadcaster said.

Both men have been charged with espionage, the broadcaster reported, a crime that carries up to 10 years’ imprisonment. They have pleaded not guilty.

“Huawei is aware of the situation, and we are looking into it,” a spokesman for the company said. Poland’s counterintelligence agency couldn’t be reached for comment.

You know a sum of Zero when it come down to espionage.

If and when I want to spy on US federal bank to get obtain their interest rate before it release, I will not do it inside the US federal bank HQ in any of the 11 district, I will do it from peripheral system in Federal Reserve backed banks in any banking station in the US, the reason is, you only need to deal with minimal level of security and be able to remotely control the hacking and get the information you want.

Same thing if I want to spy on CIA, I don't do it inside CIA Headquarter in Langley. VA, I only need to spy on their third party contractor CIA have dealing with, that is the exact reason why people like Snowdon who weren't employed by NSA can obtain NSA classified information for the leak.

Why China want to spy on Poland? Do China want to know what EU and NATO up to? Poland belong to both organisation, so if China is interested in classified information on EU and NATO, Poland is where you start, or unless Chinese spy like a challenge and try to get the same information from Intelligence Powerhouse like Whitehall in the UK or DGSE in Paris.

My point is that if US or her allies spy world wide on almost every other country via their otherwise innocent looking corporations (such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, Cisco etc) and other countries take steps against it, it becomes violation of free speech, human rights, democracy and God knows what.

Data collection by any other corporation originating from "others" is considered, espionage, threat to national security and what not.

Why should it be so? Why should other countries simply accept this show of absolute arrogance and hypocrisy?

State governments now have a choice for the future of their 5g networks, have their data mined by western intelligence agencies and corporations or have their data mined by the CCP. Most western governments will choose the former, even if it results in diplomatic and economic reprisals from Beijing.

We are in a new cold war. There is open hostility between the CCP and western liberal democratic governments. It would be unwise to allow ones adversary access to something as vital to a nations strategic information infrastructure.

And you know what US Company do and what Huawei do?

There are "data farming" and they are "data espionage" The "Data' is not the question here, but rather, how to use those data was. Everyone is using Window have to agree to its licensing agreement, which mean Microsoft have the right to collect your user data, however, how to use those data is different according to different company. And now, you are telling me, you know both how China and US collect the user data?

You cannot assume it is hostile when US is collecting the data, and it was innocent for the Chinese to collect the data by a simply fact of, you don't know.
