LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) has asked the Chinese firm to provide new and redesigned underframes of all the locomotives supplied to it over a year ago.
At a marathon consultative meeting at the New Loco Shed on Tuesday, engineers of CSR Ziyang Locomotives Co. Ltd assured the PR authorities that the faults in the 16 locomotives of 2000HP would be rectified in the shortest possible time.
Both the Chinese and PR engineers agreed during the meeting, presided over by Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafique, to jointly find by Feb 12 a solution to the problem and suggest ways and means to prevent its recurrence.
The Chinese engineers said technicians along with materials required for the replacement of underframes of six locomotives would arrive here on Feb 14.
Earlier, Mr Rafique inspected the damaged locomotives at the New Loco Shed along with senior railway officers who explained to him the matter.
After last year’s accident of Jaffar Express at Balochistan, railways engineers inspected all the locomotives supplied by a Chinese firm and found that 16 of them have underframe cracks. The railways administration decided to ground all these locomotives and summon the Chinese experts on emergency basis.
