Chinese firm bows out of coal-based power project

Its better for Pakistan ... 80% of the world's total coal reserves are located in just 10 countries and Pakistan is one of them ... Fortunately, Pakistan has a very inexpensive source to get energy through coal. Thar is not only place coal is found other places as well.

Pakistan generates only 2.27% of electricity through coal. However, coal reserves of only Thar can generate 20,000 MW of electricity for the next 40 years without load shedding and at a rate Rs 4 less than the current cost of electricity production.

They have given Pak a lot of soft loan and more. In fact all these years the amount of soft loan China have given to Pakistan is probably more than what Japan gives to India.

Can you provide details of this soft loan? what is the interest rate?

Meanwhile, of a total $3.8bn worth of infrastructure projects around Gwadar that support the CPEC plans, China has cut interest on its loans from more than 3% to 1.6%, official sources told Geo.tv.

1.6% is not bad really

This is a great news...Because coal is a dirty source of energy while Pakistan has so much potential for renewable power production to meet all its needs many times over even in far future... Hydro, solar, wind and nuclear should more than sufficiently resolve these issues. A 100 MW wind farm can be up and running in six months. For God's sake, we are living in 21st century and all the renewable technologies have matured and have become cheaper or at least comparable in levelised cost/unit to the fossil fuel power. Look at China itself has almost 50% of total global wind power installed capacity...by faaar the largest country with wind farm installation...the whole world is closing the old, dirty coal power plants. Let's be progressive and not be regressive. Shun the coal and fossil fuels for power production...the developed nations are going for clean resources....it is not so necessary for us to swim upstream and against the current of history. Save the climate for our next generations.
