16:49, March 30, 2010

Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie met with the outgoing Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) ambassador, Choe Jin Su, here Tuesday.

Liang, also a state councilor, hailed the relationship between the two countries' armed forces and said the mutual understanding and support between the two militaries contributes to the development of state-to-state relations.

China is willing to work with the DPRK to further relations between the two militaries and countries and work for regional and global peace and stability, Liang said.

"The traditional friendship between China and the DPRK is deeply rooted in the two nations' peoples," he said.

During the forty minute meeting, Liang also commended Choe upon his efforts and contributions to bilateral ties during his time as ambassador.

Choe, who was in office for about 10 years, said he hoped the two countries will maintain their efforts to advance DPRK-China relations.

Choe is scheduled to meet with other senior Chinese officials before the end of his tenure. He will meet with China's Commerce Minister, Chen Deming, late Friday.

The Defense Ministry did not disclose the precise date Choe will leave.
