DHAKA: Chinese contracing firm ‘China Major Bridge Engineering Company Ltd’ will start the construction of main Padma bridge in coming June.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader disclosed it to reporters at Setu Bhaban at Banani in the capital Thursday.
Only the tender of this firm was dropped till 3pm Thursday – the last day of submission.
The minister further said that a decision to this effect would be taken only after discussion with the consulting firms concerned.
Two companies besides it purchased the tenders. They are – Delim LNT JV and Samsung CNT Corporation.
September 9 was fixed as the last day of submission of trenders. However, at the request of the firms, the deadline was extended 4 times.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said in this regard, “We extended the deadline at their request several times. But thay failed to submit tenders within the stipulated time. This is their limitation.China Major Bridge managed to drop their tender. We will evaluate their bid. Besides, our local and international consultants were against deadline extension.”
“We are pledgebound to the people to start construction of the bridge within June,’’ added the Communications Minister.
