Not so different to what the Australian and the US are doing to Chinese journalists in their respective countries...
Regardless, the use of "National Security" excuse has been abused so much (both by China and the US and allies) to the point that this is merely an excuse to shut and restrict those that they didn't like... be it people, tech, or companies... there doesn't seem to be any different in it's use between the authoritarian China and the liberal west...
