Chinese and Vietnamese border

I live near Lottle Mart, So true, the tax on car in Vietnam maybe are 300 percent, A lot of Vietnamese could not afford for one car, the reason I think It is the quality of the road of Vietnam, not good enough for a lot of car, An advice for you when coming to Vietnam, Dont eat near Vietnamese downtown, better getting on taxi and visit Hanoi, the price for food near Hoan Kiem Lake many higher than 2 or 3 times compared with one another. what did you do in Vietnam? for a factory in Vinh Yen? Because I know has a lot of foreign companies in Vinh Yen.
Yes, I am on business trip, our group has a new factory here. Actually I flied from Penang, Malaysia to Vietnam on this trip, we have another plant there. We will soon head back to China. I quite miss home aready, I don't like any trip that is more than 1 week.

But I guess I will be assigned more trips to Vietnam in future. haha. I manage to make some friends in these days any way.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I asked people why not buy cars but ridding on motorbikes, which is much more dangerous. Simple reply is that they can't afford, as cars are so expensive, almost double in price comparing with China. Can you imgine that a toyota carola costs more than 200 thousand RMB?and a volkswagen passat costs more than 420 thousand RMB?

However, even a motorbike is dear, more than 10 thousand RMB……

Hanoi, though not as developed as Chinese cities in infrastructure, buildings, has its charm. I am gonna post some pictures.
I can imagine.
Here in Singapore, a Toyota Corolla cost more than SGD$110,000, that is around 540,000 RMB.
Chinese are having a good life now.

where else can I eat beside Hoan Kiem Lake? I always ate in that area, expensive? sure, everywhere seems expensive considering your income, but there is a lot of young vietnamese there too.
You can eat anywhere except the old town and near Hoan Kiem, Sure, It is expensive based on Vietnamese opinion, but for forgein Im not sure, example: You paid 10 USD for one bowl of pho in America, but It is only 3 to 4 USD near Hoan Kiem. With me It's still expensive, I only pay 1,5 USD for one bowl near my house.

I dont know what you like so I say about my hoppy, I sometimes come to some locations like Chua Lang street, This has a lot of young Vietnamese students in here and of course a lot of Vietnamese restaurants too, You should come to there at night to eat street food. But It is suitable if you are mature or a businessman. This is only suitable for young people. If you want to eat barbecue, come to Nguyen Khanh Toan Street, There has a lot off restaurants on two side of the road, If You like the Japanese food, coming to near Lottle Mart, behind Thu Le Park, For Korean food, you should come to My Dinh, I sometimes meet a lot of Korean restaurant in there. You should ask taxi driver, they have more experience than me

Holy sh!t and sky high crazy price!

In China mainland, get a Toyota Corolla and pay SGD20,000 only!!!

China and Vietnam should intermarry, populate all of China with half-Viets in the next gen. China will then become even more glorious!

Japs can't even make a +140kN jet engine, and they are a fully developed country and have Chinese blood in them!

To become even more glorious, we need a country full of Han+Khmer mixed blood! This will be the "super race" on Earth that can accomplish anything!

How much from SGD$110,000 is for having the right to use this car and share the road?

That's why I say Chinese are having good life now.
Things are looking good in China.
Quality of air is getting better, magnificent roads and rails.
I am envious.

I believe you mean our COE, Certificate of Entitlement, valid for 10 years.
As of Nov 2017 $46,791, so car is around $64,000 without COE.
Confirmed to be higher in 2018 when we implement zero growth of COEs.

I had two days in Hanoi. Been to the Hoan Kiem Lake, the millitary museum, the Korean's Lotte Mart and so on. We tried Vietnamese foods, some good, some not so good. And the price of things here is not cheaper!

The government imposes high taxes on cars, making them very expensive because the infrastructure is weak.

I agree.
Hope both countries can mend their differences soon and work towards a strong Asia, or at least a strong East Asia that will overwhelm the US and the EU markets.
Interesting video.
It seems they have to dismount from their bicycles over the crossing.

The scene is similar to the border between Germany and France before industrialization. I think we should preserve it forever for tourists of those countries who want to see how it looks like 200 years ago.

Nonsense. BTW, the word “aggressive”is talking about people's attitude to life, to work, to business. Don't worry about my safety, I feel quite safe here, almost comparable to being in China. Actually, I felt so safe, that I alone, run several kilometers on the road, last night, with or without road lamps, just motorbikes passing me fast. I don't know if i would do that tonight, considering the heavy dust, or maybe i shall take on another road.

I think 'competitive' is a more suitable word. And Vietnamese is actually considered 'competitive' compared to the people in other neighboring countries.

The people of South East Asia are generally passive and friendly. I think Thais are most well-known for these characteristics, that's why Thailand is also called the Land of Smiles.

It's a tough policy choice we have to make. Either we restrict car population growth, or we will have a lot traffic jams and air pollution.

If you ask me, I think the policy is in the right direction. Many other cities today face huge traffic jams but they can't do much about it, because it's too late to restrict car population growth by then. Public transport is just much more energy-efficient than getting stuck in a traffic jam. Had we not restrict growth, we may even need to sacrifice our greenery to widen the roads for more cars, as well as more air and noise pollution. Singapore would just be like any other city and lose our appeal.

But I also think the system can be improved for fairness. Not just for families which genuinely need a car, but also for purchases at different time. Because it's a demand and supply system, the price fluctuates. COE prices dropped to $2(Yes, two dollar) in 2008 because of the recession, and hit a record high of $92,100 in 2013. That's BS to me.

That's customs union, my friend, and visa free travel. I wish we achieved that in Northeast Asia+Vietnam. That would be great but how many of your leaders have the political capital to even suggest a customs union with China?
Everyone that wants to become Vietnamese regardless of ethnicity, races, beliefs or sexual orientation can get Viet citizenship. The chance to get Chinese citizenship is zero. Surely VN wants peace, more cooperations, but the question is what China wants?

Or is it like the other poster here that wants China to build fences, walls along the border to Vietnam because we are seen as Mexicans.

Probably this has to do with the number of populations that the two governments have to take care of.

Peace is always a two-way street, my friend, and I am sure China wants it as much as Vietnam does. Otherwise, we would not have this long peace post WWII (except US imperialist wars and atrocities) in our region, especially in the past four decades.

Or is it like the other poster here that wants China to build fences, walls along the border to Vietnam because we are seen as Mexicans.

Not in this world. It is impossible that China would make CN-VN border one of US-MX border in which heavily-armed civilian vigilantes hunt down trespassers.

Definitely we need regulations across borders to guard against trafficking (human and drugs) and for this, the two governments' security apparatus need to cooperate.

As far as I know, CN and VN do have various border security joint drills.

Borders cannot be entirely unruled/unregulated, but, I do not think China would in any way plan to limit social and economic communications across border with Vietnam.
