We are poor hence one way traffic. China doesn’t allow private vehicles hence people need to walk or run to the factories and markets in China. Allowing cars, bikes and buses will be a great thing. Hey it is a good start though. Until recently China laid mines along the border to Vietnam, with the PLA shooting everyone that move suspicious towards the border gates. VN/CN border, It was even more dangerous than the DMZ between the two Korea‘s.

I didn't realize until now that vehicles are not allowed across the border.
Is it only at this border crossing, or how else are goods transported from China to Vietnam, or does it go over by sea.

Cross border transport and traffic will improve once relations get better.
Relations though not optimum is considered quite good as border hostilities only ended 1990.
I think better days are ahead and not let declining hegemonic powers stir up trouble in Asia.
China Vietnam relations are very complex, but as there were no massacre incidence like what the brutal inhumane Japanese did, all disputes can be negotiated and settled, surely.

I can drive by car on highways from Germany to Holland, Belgium to France to Italy and beyond without interruption, can buy a house anywhere in those countries, can take a job, can live there at any time.

Actually China and Vietnam should be indifferent towards each other. Friends can backstab each other. Enemies can fight each other. Indifferent groups will just be... indifferent.

If there is one constant in the universe that will hold up till the end of time it is this:

Vietnam, India, and Japan will NEVER be pro-China! (You can subjugate them for a brief period of time, such as the Annam tributary State, but their hearts will NEVER be with China)
