Well you seemed pretty excited when you thought the deceased was originally a Chinese soldier:

can we therefore imply that even after getting US marine training, the current crop of chinese soldiers lack mental strength? I heard even the upper command/old guard is concerned that new PLA recruits aren't the epitome of courage and bravery

Then for some reason, Abhishek and Gambit decide it's a great opportunity to bash CHINESE soldiers, even though the thread is about an American solider who committed suicide.

May be that is the most PLA soldiers can do: Impress conscript rejects and overseas Chinese.

Maybe these guys will somehow grow a conscience, when they realize they have just been getting excited over the death of an AMERICAN soldier, but somehow I doubt it.

Sad. But such a sensitive kid shouldn't have joined the army in the first place. Such harassments are common in army. I am sure life in PLA would be more brutal.

I wonder if he was continuously sleeping on the guard duty then why was he assigned the same duty again and again.. If he was not able to do the job then he should have been put on other one.. At least that would have saved a life..

Sad but I wonder, how did he surpassed the Marine training!! Military is not for faint hearted dudes...he failed to do his duty repeatedly putting the other soldiers life in danger. Nothing unusual about the treatment he got after as per the news..anyway RIP

actually, the PLA is right now complaining that the next generation of troops is too soft and can't handle discipline. the PLA is a soft military right now but in times of war, well... things change fast.

Best soldiers still come from the peasant stock. While the city folks in China's new generation are definitely softer those who came from impoverished villages could tolerate hardship as much, if not better, than their predecessors.

A marine shot himself after being mentally tortured which includes making him do push ups which is the standard practice in any army for incompetence. Either this marine suffered a mental breakdown or there is more to his suicide. There was an incident in India when a soldier killed his superior officer because he was denied leave. May be something liked this happened to him.

An unnatural death, a bunch of marines in dock....reminds me of Few Good Men.
