Wow, it's a fine looking ship. The Chinese navy is expanding fast. The 052D is already undergoing sea trials after less than two years at the docks. At least three more are under construction. Makes me jealous. Come on, where is the P15A Kolkata?

Now come on, I was being serious when I brought up the Kolkata DDG. India vs China is a huge topic in India. Many Indians are keen on competing with China economically and militarily. So it's natural to ask where India stands compared to China when it comes to naval expansion. At the moment, China is leagues ahead in terms of technology, execution, and industrial capacity. The speed with which the 052D was put in the water speaks to those advantages. Two years from keel laying to sea trials is impressive, by any standard.

Our two American yards churn out about three PESA equipped Arleigh Burkes per year. This single Chinese yard at one point had SEVEN AESA equipped destroyers under construction simultaneously.

India indeed has a very long way to go. The free falling Rupee is going to make importing all the critical subsystems much more expensive, which can only slow down India's naval buildup for the foreseeable future.

India should have focused much more on indigenization and self-reliance.
