Superb Chinese engineering! Those gorgeous bridges are breathtaking indeed!
View attachment 692851Nice catch! Thanks for the effort of your research to find out the little bug of his claiming. I definitely don't like his self-boosting but to be fair that COWI is just one of 13 contractors for the designing work of the whole project. The COWI's contract is on a 5.6km tunnel out of the 55km long bridge. Even for the tunnel, COWI is not responsible for the major design but for preliminary design and technical assistance. To give you some info on this picture, for main engineering design, there're 3 contractors and 2 of them are from China, one is from the Netherlands.
@dbc
COWI is just one, there are other mainly European contributors to the design such as TEC (Holland) among others. So claiming this is the marvel of "Chinese Engineering" is intellectually dishonest.
Plz elaborate "mainly European contributors to the design such as TEC (Holland) among others". I saw 2 of the 3 main engineering design contractors are from China, one is from the Netherlands which is the TEC. So I have indicated that for you why obsessed with COWI? Not worth the credit.COWI is just one, there are other mainly European contributors to the design such as TEC (Holland) among others. Which one is Korean? I didn't see it. If you count all contractors you can even see more overwhelmingly Chinese ones. 9 out of 13. I understand your intention but why not make your rebuttal more factual based other than casual twists? Who can read through your minds if you don't put it more straightforward? I don't have a habit of claiming "pure Chinese made" to get a sense of pride. Just give you an example. Huawei along with other companies like ZTE has the ability to provides almost all Tele-infrastructure for China Mobile and China Unicom, but they still open for bids from international suppliers. That's why Nokia and Ericson have some share of contracts. I hope western companies can have the same attitude of openness.Mainly European implies the bulk of the external input to the design was European. There is some Japanese and Korean contribution as well.

I tired to be discreet by subtly linking the COWI page to my initial post on this thread.
All of China's major construction feat over the last two decades have several external contributors.
My main issue is with the often repeated narrative that China does not need external materials or know how.
China can do everything on its own - it is far from reality.
Example 1
the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao link the worlds longest immersed tunnel design is based on the Øresund tunnel connecting Denmark and Sweden.
Example 2
Huawei's crown jewel its 5G polar coding technology is created by a former MIT professor from Turkey.
I did not suggest that China is incapable of technical excellence as a matter of fact there are key scientific and engineering contributions that China can brag about that is truly a 100% Chinese.
But you have to be interested to research the topic OR be a part of the scientific / technical community to know about it.
