China’s second Type 055 warship, Lhasa, is combat-ready, state media reports

i don't think so. the indian army would never make it out of the uninhabited areas of tibet even if they launched a surprise attack, then with supply issues trying to feed their men over the himalayas, and some softening up by the rocket and air force, the PAP could probably take out the invading Indian army without needing the actual army. might still need PLAGF though, for rescuing cowering indians that keep running away in terror into icy rivers and setting up hostials.

the south koreans will never make it past north korea.

The only real land threat is russia, but relations with russia are good so for the time being there are no worries.

I think that the issue with is that certain countries may engage in aggression against the UN recognized sovereign nation state of the DPRK, of which China is a treaty ally of. In that case the PLAGF may need to aid the ally in repelling aggressors and eliminating enemy capability for further waging war.

China should integrate long range land attack cruise missiles on them and test and declare their range. Some of your capabilities should be known to the world

You know what, China should go with super Cruiser capable of carrying 600 Missiles ! Just imagine 4 Carriers groups, along with 50 of these super cruisers stationed on both the east and west coasts of US !

that true, however, SK is still not going to pose a land threat to china, it would have to fight through a china-supported/supplied and nuclear armed million man strong army of NK. the nuclear armed part means NK isnt ever going to get invaded and even if they do get invaded, their nuclear arms will severely weaken the enemy before china gets involved in what would be more of a rescue/humanitarian mission. since the 38th parallel is going to be glowing green.

China’s second Type 055 warship – its largest and most advanced destroyer – is combat-ready, state media reported.

The stealth guided-missile destroyer Lhasa has been conducting a series of drills in the Yellow Sea in the past week to test its operational capabilities, state television said.
Eight days of exercises began with radar detection of a target in undisclosed waters and simulating firing to destroy it, according to the report.

Other training included attacks on maritime targets with missiles and artillery, search and attack on submarines, defence against nuclear, biological and chemical weapon attacks, searching and seizure of suspected civilian ships, personnel rescue and damage control.

“This will contribute to the bolstering of the new ship’s comprehensive ability to fight and accelerate the rapid generation of new-type combat capabilities,” Captain Li Guoqiang, chief of staff at the vessel training centre of the Northern Theatre Command Navy, was quoted as saying.

“We will take advantage of scientific and technological methods to explore new ways of training and set new examples in training with science and tech.”

Named after the Tibetan capital, the vessel was commissioned to the North Sea Fleet last March and is based in Qingdao. Having become fully operational, it is expected to be assigned to the navy’s significant missions later this year, as was the case for its sister ship Nanchang.

Nanchang, the country’s first Type 055 ship, entered service two years ago. It last year took part in a cruise near Alaska, a joint drill in the Sea of Japan and joint patrol around Japan with Russia, and exercises as part of the Liaoning aircraft carrier group.

The Type 055 is regarded as the second-most powerful destroyer after the US Navy’s DDG-1000, or Zumwalt-class stealth ship. While the Zumwalt is focused on land attack, the Type 055, with its 112 vertical launch missile cells, is more of a multirole warship, with balanced air-defence, anti-missile, anti-ship and anti-submarine weapons.

At more than 180 metres (590 feet) long and 20 metres (66 feet) wide and with displacement of 12,000 tonnes, the Type 055 is designed to guard the Chinese aircraft carriers as well as Type 075 amphibious assault ships.

In a shipbuilding spree that has given China the world’s largest navy by number of ships, eight Type 055 large destroyers were launched between 2017 and 2020.

By the end of last year, the third and fourth Type 055 vessels had been delivered. The fifth one is expected to be commissioned in the first half of this year.

China should stop building the Type 54 for Pakistan and instead start building type 55 for Pakistan Navy.

Yeah, if you have $1.5 billion dollars to buy, fully armed and operation budget for just one type 055.

At least 50 Type 055 cruisers should be constructed. Later variants will be even more advanced with missile defense and lasers.

Type 055 is a true badass
Perhaps not 50, but if China is to be able o protect its SLOCs, it may need at least 24. Btw, considering a possible increase in size, and possibly a desire to be less dependent on port visits, do you think a follow on design; a “Type 055A” or “Type 055B” could be nuclear powered, especially to power the future lasers and higher power sensors (such as radars). Saving space (from carrying fuel) by switch to a nuclear design could allow the ship to have an even lower thermal / RCS signature (by removing or minimizing the need for exhaust funnels) and free up space for more long range ABM and SAM missiles, surpassing the number of VLS on any ship in the region. A nuclear powered cruiser could keep up with a nuclear powered carrier and nuclear powered submarine at full speed to potential threats to Chinese trade around the world, decreasing the need for more ships; quality over quantity. It would probably cost a lot more then the current design, but it would be more adaptable to future needs.

Recently, some news of 055A came out of China.
055A have install the new Class F 50MW heavy gas turbine. Configure KEI. One missile silo can carry four missiles. Configure DF17(ABSM)&YJ21&HQ19, and a new short-range air defense missile (the maximum range is 50km, the maximum overload is 50G, and the maximum speed is Mach 5).
