China's Mars probe travels 137 mln km
Xinhua, September 12, 2020

China's Mars probe Tianwen-1 has traveled 137 million km, said sources with the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration.
As of 9 a.m. Friday, the probe was in stable condition at a distance of more than 15.3 million km away from Earth, according to a center statement.

The probe captured a photo of Earth and the moon in late July, and completed its first mid-course orbital correction in early August.

China launched the Mars probe on July 23, kicking off the country's independent planetary exploration mission. The spacecraft, consisting of an orbiter, a lander and a rover, is expected to reach the red planet around February 2021.

When arriving at Mars, the probe will be about 195 million km from Earth with an actual flight distance of 470 million km, said the center.

Please tell me what specific technologies/operations China could not do without Europe? Monitor and control collaboration means China will send data to Europe ... I'm not sure why you are assuming this is a joint venture. Is the Chinese probe made out of European components?

LOL, He is trying to discredit China in every possible way, fails to know that all space program involves some kind of international cooperation, he surely doesn't know a project called international space station.

The rocket engines, boost pack, lander, rover and orbiter are totally made in china.Some side backup and cooperation in Tracking & data sharing, which is pretty universal.
ESA itself has never successfully landed on Mars itself.It's more like a backup,china isn't dependent on foreign help like India was ,ISRO almost delayed launch for mARS Mission under concerns about support from the Americans- NASA/JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) which was supposed to provide communications and navigation support to this mission with their Deep Space Network facilities with 100% track record which did the work for them and antennae based in Spain, Australia and the US also provided navigation and tracking support.


Do you know even nasa 's perseverence mission is involved in cooperation with thE same ESA ?

he doesn't realize that the reason China uses the ESA deep space network is because they have bases on EU colonies, and it is more expensive to use Yuanwang ships than to just hire ESA. But make no mistake - if the EU didn't want to cooperate, then Yuanwang ships can be used, and EU just gets no data. Right now it's an amazing deal for the EU as they get free data with China bearing almost all the risk.
