China's installed wind power capacity hit record high in 2014
Xinhua, February 12, 2015

China's newly installed wind power capacity jumped to a record high of 19.81 million kilowatts in 2014, according to an industry briefing by the National Energy Bureau (NEB) Thursday.

Wind power generated 153.4 billion kilowatt hours of on-grid electric power in 2014, contributing to 2.78 percent of the country's total generated electricity, said Shi Lishan, deputy director of the NEB's new and renewable energy department.

The year saw more wind power construction and development, with newly-approved wind power capacity reaching 36 million kilowatts, a year on year increase of 6 million, Shi said.

The average usage of wind power in 2014, however, slumped to 1,893 hours from 2,074 hours in the previous year, partly due to weak wind conditions throughout the year, Shi added.

The wind power sector generated 134.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in China in 2013, making it the country's third-largest source of electricity, after thermal power and hydro power.

Impressive ! Talk about energy efficiency !

Yesterday there was a nice news report on NHK on China's push for renewable energy.

China wind power capacity jumps to record high

China boosted its installed wind energy capacity last year to a record 19.81 million kilowatts as the world's biggest greenhouse gas emitter tries to switch its power grid to cleaner energy sources.

The National Energy Administration said Thursday that wind farms produced 153.4 billion kilowatt hours of electric power in 2014, making up 2.8 percent of total generated electricity.

Last year's installed wind power capacity represented a 23 percent jump from the 2013 level of 16.09 million kilowatts.

China still produces about 80 percent of its total energy and about 60 percent of electricity by burning coal.

In November, the government pledged to produce 20 percent of the country's total energy through non-fossil fuels by 2030, doubling its current level, while capping growth in its carbon emissions by the same year, it not earlier.

Already, China is a world leader in solar and wind energy production and has announced plans to further boost renewable energy investment. At the same time, China burns about half of the world's coal and emits twice as much carbon as the United States, the second biggest emitting country.

this is impressive! you need more of these renewable clean energy to clean up your skies and be more independent from fossil fuel

credit where credit is due, China has done a lot in this field

China's wind power capacity to hit 120 gigawatts by 2015
October 17, 2015

China's wind power capacity is to hit 120 gigawatts by the end of 2015, according to the National Energy Administration (NEA) on Friday.

Zhu Ming, deputy director of the NEA's new and renewable energy department, said wind power capacity has reached 105 gigawatts by the end of June this year.

He stressed wind power generation has become an important part of the country's electricity supply, and needs more subsidies, better technology and management.

By the end of 2020, China aims to increase non-fossil energy to 15 percent of total primary energy consumption, and sharply enhance the ratio of renewable energy in production.

While I fully acknowledge that it is a spectacular achievement, I think there needs to be better research/studies to identify if the Wind turbines affect the local wind patterns, which might have a far deadlier consequences in terms of affecting the rains.

I am not saying that the turbines affect the wind patterns and hence rains, but they really need to be studied systemically.

Red flags are already being raised in India, in areas that are grappling with severe and prolonged droughts, that also happen to have higher concentration of these Wind Turbines.
