There are some academics who are typical cowards and try to hide lack of spine as moderation.

No, they are right. We should destroy the imperialists, but we should not become new imperialists. We should uphold our original intention and guard against the erosion of populism. There are some academics who are typical cowards and try to hide lack of spine as moderation.
Nonsense the US youths are not interested in politics at all. most of them if you ask them don’t even know where Japan and China in Far East. Politics is a taboos topic anyway. It’s a death sin to talk on politics. People talk when meet on weather, where to shop, talking on sports, and or other topics, never politics.Yan Xuetong is right. The new generation has to be confident but not so over confident that it ends up getting blinded by patriotism like the american generations to the point that it drives the nation into jumping into unwinnable quagmire type wars like the u.s. did.
That's not lack of interests of politics, that's purely ignorance.Nonsense the US youths are not interested in politics at all. most of them if you ask them don’t even know where Japan and China in Far East.
Why should chinese youths do anything educational to americans youths? Makes no sense. Most Americans are not interested in domestic politics why should they have any interest in foreign politics? That's not lack of interests of politics, that's purely ignorance.
I fully expect chinese youth to be able school these americans in matter of politics, history and even science at this point.
Really? You are telling me the americans (the youths) are not interested in their Repub vs Democrat clown show? Why chinese youths do anything to americans youths? Makes no sense. Most Americans are not interested in politics in domestic politics why should they have any interest in foreign politics?
No they will not waste their time on this.Really? You are telling me the americans (the youths) are not interested in their Repub vs Democrat clown show?
I have troubles believing that.
Anyway, it's not even foreign politics, they are ignorant about basic geography, stuff they learn in school.
Chinese Gen-Z are simply pissed with non-stop Western propoganda and fake news against China and Chinese, and just responding with a middle finger, called it "overconfidence" or "nationalism" or whatever. Chinese "scholars" should just grow some spine and don't really have to be so apologetic.
It's far better than having slave mentality. Surely Chinease have their reasons.Nationalism is a double edge sword, sometime it needs to be curbed.
That's the cycle a nation has to take. A universal law. Better than having no confidence & living miserable.Yan Xuetong is probably concerned that confidence first turns into over-confidence, then into arrogance and finally, into ignorance and zenophobia.

Much the same in Vietnam. We say politics belong to politicians.
Interestingly, in contrast the Germans when they meet talk on politics they like to criticize everything on politics.
There are differences yes the western is evil but there are shades.

That may be a real threat, but, the preventive measure is not to turn them into meek tape-recorders memorizing foreign ideas/theories passively to get a diploma and land in a job.
Confidence in rational, critical, and independent thinking is an asset, not liability. I guess Yan Xuetong himself is an intellectually confident person, as seen in his attemps to actually construct a social theory by introducing classical Tianxia concept into modern governance in China.
Maybe he wants his students to read his books only, LOL.
