What's new

China's first self-developed computer with domestically-made CPU and operating system rolls off production line in Guangdong

. .
What does this mean in factual terms ? Does China have a CPU with an entirely new instruction set and an OS written from scratch ( not another Linux distro ) ?

This is like Beidou 20 years ago. Significant development but still a long way to go.
Government offices should be the first users. And can also find a lot of users in the enterprises and the industry.

The specifications and manufacturing volumes indicate it is for specialist use only, and not end consumer use at the outset. The eco-system does not exist for consumer use yet ..

A simple Google search reveals ( Link [1] and Link [2] ) that the CPU is based on the British ARM architecture and the OS to be based on Linux.

No great shakes.

From your link, probably it's for military use first

"Tianyue series computers have their own unique advantages.

Tianyue series computers are highly reliable, long-endurance, resistant to heat and humidity, shock resistance, and other outstanding performance, and can adapt to highlands, islands, and other areas. It can meet the needs of data acquisition, image processing, command and control, communication, and positioning in harsh environments such as desert, jungle, etc. It has already been implemented in Heilongjiang (high cold), Hainan (high humidity), Tibet (high altitude), and other areas with unstable power supply.

At present, it has been realized in Heilongjiang (high cold), Hainan (high humidity), Tibet (high altitude), and other areas with an unstable power supply of tens of thousands of people. The deployment and application of China-made computers are able to withstand the harsh environment."

I agree that the processors and the machines they are fitted-in are produced to be of high-reliability in various things ( environmental parameters, image processing, networking etc ) but my point was it is not fair to say that they are China's self-designed items. They are of foreign design implemented in China. I think you will find my argument reasonable.

All new products were based on some previous technology, as long as you can independantly make them yourself by your own means and resources, they are self developed. The first Chinese air craft carrier and the second one look very similar, but the second one was actually desgined by Chinese engineers.

Its like saying modern physics theory are develop by western and if Chinese used any of those thoery. All Chinese later developed is based on western. What a load of BS!

I suppose all aircraft carriers have the same basic elements but what if a new Chinese AC had a rail gun or laser gun of entirely Chinese design or some new type of power generation or a new type of propulsion ?

India and China have many computer science students graduating out of colleges every year. Many of them will be electronics engineers and many will be software. And this has been so for many years now. So from both countries why has been there not a single instance of the two foundational elements of a computer : the CPU and OS ?

Please see above reply.

It's been some months since you made the announcement. How is it going ?

Does that mean you can't say Mahindra made cars are actually made in india because car is actually invented by the west?
