China's export of heating appliances to EU soars

By Sun Chi | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2022-09-06 10:33

China's export volume of electric heaters, electric blankets and other heating appliances has sharply risen so far this year, Yicai reported on Monday, quoting the China Household Electrical Appliances Association.

With the fermentation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the energy crisis in Europe is getting worse, taking tolls to industries and livelihoods. Many European countries have expedited their energy structural transformation and, at the mean time, launched energy saving campaigns among the public to address energy shortage.

According to the European Union's statistics bureau, as of July, the annual energy price inflation rate in EU was registered at 38.3 percent, with the price inflation rates of natural gas and electricity at 52.2 percent and 31.1 percent. Since August, energy prices have continued to rise. As per the data from the European Energy Exchange, the average price of the European electric system was 462.1 euros ($460.6) per megawatt hour, a six-fold increase since the start of the year. On August 26, the closing price of the Dutch TTF Gas Futures recorded 339.2 euros per megawatt, a five-fold increase since the start of the year.

China's export of products in markets including air conditioners, electric water heaters, electric heaters, electric blankets and electric hair driers have seen year-on-year increase this year, especially electric heaters, electric blankets as well as air source heat pumps. In the first seven months, the export of electric blankets to the EU rose 97 percent year-on-year. In the first half of the year, China's export of air source heat pumps to Bulgaria, Poland, Italy and Spain rose by 614 percent, 373 percent, 198 percent and 71 percent respectively.

The China Household Electrical Appliances Association said all products enjoying sharp increases have temperature-adjustment functions, reflecting that European consumers are expending their purchasing of heating products for the coming winter.

China resells surplus Russian gas to EU, at a price of cause, now Chinese appliance manufacturers are making a killing in selling heating appliances.

Since it's EU sanctioning Russia, why we did't see Russia suffer much but only see EU is having this daily struggle? I m starting to wonder who actually sanctions who...

Westerners are inheritantly racist. They do not consider China worthy to think about.

In case you don’t know, the world is drown in oil, gas and commodity. Russia has these stuffs in huge stocks but doesn’t want to sell. There is no lack of oil, gas and minerals elsewhere in the world. The problem the EU now has is a supply problem.

The high price is the reaction on the supply shock. A temporary shock. won’t last forever. If you look at the oil price today, it is crashing, it’s even lower than before invasion. Same will be for natural gas.

In that case, Russia can use that oil for itself. More oil for tanks.

Yes Russia can keep the oil. an army division requires 1.5 million lire fuel per day. The EU seeking new suppliers.
In case the chinese don’t want to sell heaters they can keep all to themselves. The EU seeking other suppliers as well.

EU energy costs are likely to rise 400%+ in the coming months. This will be a very tough winter for the EU.

LoL, We'll see, how long, I mean how short is "temporary"?

Temporary means it’s matter of months. Supply shock will ease by end of 2022 or early 2023. People don’t sit idle and wait for messiah.

China heating product exports to Europe surge

By FAN FEIFEI | China Daily | Updated: 2022-09-14 07:21

High-quality appliances at good prices are increasingly favored by Europeans
Despite it still being summer in Europe, China's exports of heating appliances, including electric heaters, electric blankets and air source heat pumps, have witnessed explosive growth this year as the continent is in the grip of its biggest energy crisis in decades, with natural gas supplies from Russia becoming volatile, industry experts said.

The European Union's statistics bureau showed that the annual inflation rate of energy prices in the EU reached 38.3 percent as of July, among which natural gas and electricity prices jumped 52.2 percent and 31.1 percent, respectively. Many European countries have hastened efforts to push forward the transition of their energy structures.

China's General Administration of Customs said the country's exports of electric blankets and electric heaters skyrocketed 97 percent and 23 percent year-on-year, respectively, in the first seven months, given that European consumers are expanding their purchases of heating appliances ahead of the coming winter.

The European market has been a major growth engine for China's home appliance exports. There is surging demand for imported electric heaters, especially in Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany, while demand for electric blanket imports more than doubled in Greece, Italy, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands.

Currently, China is the main supplier of air source heat pumps-a common heating technology that sources heat energy from ambient air outdoors for indoor heating-to Europe, taking up about 60 percent of global market share, said the China Household Electrical Appliances Association.

In the first half, China's exports of air source heat pumps to Bulgaria, Poland, Italy and Spain soared 614 percent, 373 percent, 198 percent and 71 percent year-on-year, respectively.

"Russia has cut off gas supplies to several European countries, which has promoted price spikes of natural gas and other energy, thus bringing huge demand for energy-saving heating appliances," said Bo Wenxi, chief economist at marketing firm Interpublic Group China.

Against the backdrop of soaring energy prices and natural gas shortages, China's high-quality heating appliances at reasonable prices are increasingly favored by European consumers, Bo said.

Germans bought 600,000 electric heating devices during the first half, up almost 35 percent from a year earlier, according to market researcher GfK.

Zhou Nan, secretary-general of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products' home appliances branch, said exports of heating appliances have risen dramatically in the first six months, and air source heat pumps, which serve as a high-efficiency source of heat in cold climates, enjoy huge growth potential.

Sales revenue of China's air source heat pump industry amounted to 7.19 billion yuan ($1.04 billion) in the first half, up nearly 30 percent year-on-year, based on data from ChinaIOL.com, a professional research institute focusing on data monitoring in the home appliances market.

Domestic sales of air source heat pumps rose 6.82 percent year-on-year to 3.74 billion yuan, while the export value reached 3.45 billion yuan, surging 68.2 percent on a yearly basis. Italy, Poland and Spain saw year-on-year increases of more than 50 percent in the first six months of 2022.

Exports of air source heat pumps are expected to maintain a more than 50 percent growth rate this year due to rising demand for such energy-efficient heating equipment across the globe, said ChinaIOL.

In the first seven months, exports of Chinese home appliance firm Midea's heat pumps surged 215 percent year-on-year, ChinaIOL said. Haier Group said exports of its air source heat pumps jumped 200 percent on a yearly basis in the first half, and the products were mainly sold to European countries.

Germany's electrical imports from China rise 25 pct in July: ZVEI

Source: Xinhua

2022-09-16 00:25:30
BERLIN, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Electrical imports from China to Germany in July increased by 25 percent year-on-year to 6.6 billion euros (6.6 billion U.S. dollars), the German Electro and Digital Industry (ZVEI) said on Thursday.

China remained the most important export and import country for the German electronics industry, according to ZVEI. Electrical exports from Europe's largest economy to China were up 5 percent to 2.3 billion euros in the month.

Total imports of electrical and electronic products rose by 21 percent in July to reach 20.2 billion euros in Germany, although exports only increased by 8 percent to 19.5 billion euros, according to ZVEI.

"For four consecutive months, imports have been higher than exports in absolute terms," said ZVEI chief economist Andreas Gontermann.

For the full year 2022, the industry is expecting an import surplus, due to substantial differences between imports and exports that were accumulated earlier this year. "That would be the first time this millennium," Gontermann added.

Although Germany's total trade volume fell in July, the long-term comparison with figures from previous years still shows a "positive development," the Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (BGA) said earlier this month. ■
