BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Chang'e-4 probe took panoramic photos on the lunar surface after it successfully made the first ever soft-landing on the far side of the moon.

The China National Space Administration (CNSA) Friday released the 360-degree panoramic photos taken by a camera installed on the top of the lander.

The images were sent back via the relay satellite Queqiao, which was operating around the second Lagrangian point of the earth-moon system, about 455,000 km from the earth, where it can see both the earth and the moon's far side.

Scientists have made a preliminary analysis on the terrains and landform surrounding the probe according to the panoramic pictures.

Chang'e-4 probe touched down on the Von Karman Crater in the South Pole-Aitken Basin in the morning of Jan. 3, and the lunar rover Yutu-2 drove onto the lunar surface late that night.

Then the rover took a "nap" as the solar radiation raised the temperature on the lunar surface to over 100 degrees centigrade. It restarted to work on Thursday.

The lander, the rover and the relay satellite are in good condition, said CNSA.

The China National Space Administration (CNSA) Friday released the 360-degree panoramic photos taken by a camera installed on the top of the lander.

The images were sent back via the relay satellite Queqiao, which was operating around the second Lagrangian point of the earth-moon system, about 455,000 km from the earth, where it can see both the earth and the moon's far side.

Yeah, it started to heat up.

Now that the far-side of the moon enters daylight, because there is no atmospheric insulation, the temperature will reach nearly 200 °C. In order to protect important parts and avoid extreme conditions, I have to take a lunch break.

The masters gave me a thick insulation kit. My golden jacket can reflect strong light. There are also variable heat pipes in the body, a controllable two-phase fluid circuit, etc., and the body temperature is controlled below 55 °C. (I am proud to say that the small flag on my chest is resistant to high temperatures! There are no photos, only one rendering, for you to see.)

My fourth sister(Chang'e-4 Lander) thermal control ability is stronger than mine. She would still carries out a series of work at noon.

In fact, during the lunch break, I will not fall asleep. I am still awake. I am just standing by, charging, writing a log, transmitting some monitoring data, and telling you about the moon.

I don't like to take a break after working for just a day, but protecting myself is also an important task.

One lunar day is 28 earth days. So it takes time to move from cold to hot orientations.
Also China is not much into live status updates, esp since a year back when a rocket failed during a live telecast. So you have to wait until task is completed successfully for a update. Contrast this with the nasa Coverage of the new horizon.
Also all this cutesy rabbit is taking a nap stuff is really grating. It sounds stupid and forced.

I wondered which foul mouth was barking...no suprise it's an Indian. :lol:. Never seen a live Indian launch after PSLV failure last year too....but with a pathetic 6 launches a year, who even wants to look at it. :rofl::rofl::rofl:. So when is Indian gonna land on the moon? OOO wait, you already crash landed on the moon earlier than China and 'planted' an Indian flag right? :rofl:

False. All isro launches are live on DD and online. Only one launch was not live in the last couple of years. That was the South Asia sat launch.
India does not try to hide its failures as its a open society.. You won't understand so I won't waste your time.

I've only seen launch videos after launches, never seen LIVE ones. :D. Hiding failures meant we won't announce it, understand genius? I have never once seen a sincere Indian wanting to see the progress of China, it's always the cynical lot trying to downplay everything. The jealousy and envy you Indians have against China is astounding. Until recently most Chinese thought no ill of Indians, the humiliation of 62 is deeply ingrained into the Indian psyche until today.

Ever wondered that maybe there is a 'delay' and hence that's why we need to use a relay satellite? Or you assume landing on the far side is actually as easy as landing on the near side?

News from Chinese social media: There will be live telecast of Chang'e-4 at 4:00pm BJT.

Following the same pattern of events as in Chang'e-3 mission, the lander and rover would take photo of each other with China national flag on them (At point E). After that, the Chang'e-4 mission would be declared mission accomplished. The scientific exploration mission would proceed after that.

If China has taken a adverserial stance towards India its not in Indias hands.
Your delay reason is laughable,its not mars, transmission is near instantaneous. The reason for the relay satellite is due to line of sight for the dark side. Guess you are a kid. Go into more depth.

And when u try something new failure is totally Normal.It adds to your legitimacy. Unless u buy something and pass it off as homegrown.....

That said, adding a relay means radio signals must cross a greater distance, which in turn lengthens the round-trip communications delay. This means that any far-side lander or rover, including Chang'e-4, must be able to select its landing site and avoid hazards on its own.


Don't have to go any deeper, it's just common sense. OOO right, the pride of India, the Mars probe using the I-1K archietecture which is nearly identical to Chandrayaan and launched by the primitive PSLV. So what's the advancement here? NASA deep space tracking? :rofl::rofl::rofl:

When landing on the far side of the moon, the lander is not visible to the stations on earth. So a satellite has been positioned at the langrages? point, which is visible to the lander from the far side of the moon. This satellite acts as the intermediatery between earth and moon.
Nothing to do with signal delay as u claimed.
India used nasa dishes for the same reason that China used the European sat dishes navigation help for its previous moon landing, the earth rotates. Ofcourse China going so far to moon is the same as India going so near to Mars.

And then because India lost the race to the moon, they then did a Mars to try to save some face with US support, otherwise, it's just a crappy I-1K and PSLV.:rofl:

Going to the moon is not exactly deep space genius, we did get some ESA assistance when the satellite is out of range from our tracking ships and stations for Chang'e-1.

U did claim that a delay was the reason for using a relay satellite. U need to come out of your indoctrination. Its unhealthy and convinces no one.
