SANYA, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- A cruise route, linking the city of Sanya in the southernmost Hainan Province with the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea, opened on Tuesday afternoon.

About 200 tourists are aboard the maiden voyage on the Coconut Princess, which will take 12 hours to arrive in the Xisha Islands, according to Ye Wei, deputy general manager of Hainan Strait Shipping Co., the cruise operator.

Tourists will sleep on board and visit the islands of Yinyu, Quanfu and Yagong where they can play beach volleyball, dive, fish and take wedding photos, said Ye.

The cruise lasts four days and three nights and costs from 4,000 yuan (650 U.S. dollars) to more than 10,000 yuan depending on accommodation.

Cruises to the islands, around 180 nautical miles away from the nearest port, got underway on a trial basis from Haikou, the provincial capital, in April 2013 and almost 3,500 tourists have made the trip. The new Sanya-Xisha route, which supersedes Haikou-Xisha from Tuesday, is eight hours shorter.

To the southeast of Hainan, the Xisha Islands are a cluster of islets, sandbanks and reefs, famous for their unusual scenery and ecosystem.

Promoting tourism on the Xisha islands has been on the Chinese government's agenda for years. The State Council, China's cabinet, announced late in 2009 that Hainan would be developed as a destination for international tourists, including the Xisha Islands.

Beautiful indeed, I have plan to visit Hainan for quite some time now, it would be good opportunity to get on the islands tour when the time comes. Sansha city would be the place to see, although I have heard that for some times now mostly the relatives of military personnel could get special arrangements, maybe they are not ready to receive regular tourists yet. Hopefully that would change in the future, i would like to see those beautiful islands and stay overnight on the island, Sansha city would be best.

Good place and its the first time that I see these photos.

Xisha will become a forseeable popular place for tourists. If there's a further open plan then there will have a lot of investment.

Next ten years, there will have more infrastructures for holiday and defence. Very good.

Xisha Islands - the southernmost tourist resort in China
(People's Daily Online) 10:18, May 20, 2015

Since the Xisha tourism route was opened more than one year ago, it has received more than ten thousand visitors. The quiet Yongle Islands have become lively day by day. With the increasing construction projects, improved island life and more and more tourism activities, the officials with Sansha Yongle Islands Working Committee are now confident to turn the islands to “China’s Maldives”.

How about these for China's next tourist destination?

I am pretty sure they were taken at Chigua (Johnson South) Island.

Nice building in the middle of the SCS, don't you think?

Close-up view. That could be your nice little tourist hotel with casino for a little R&R.

No kidding. The building is actually 9 levels or floors.
