Featured China's 3rd aircraft carrier 'progressing smoothly'

10 is too much. China does not want to challenge American hegemony. 4 carriers are defenseless enough. Another reason is that an aircraft carrier is so expensive, it's a bottomless hole and becomes a maintenance and logistics nightmare. The money to build an aircraft carrier is enough to buy about 7-8 thousand anti-ship missiles.

But in one point, want it or not, they have to challenge American hegemony. Not because the moment have arrived, but because they're forced to do so.

There is no such thing as too many aircraft carriers or vessels ... just like with money, the more the merrier.
Yup, like how USSR goes bankrupt with endless military expenditure.

Those who repeatedly point towards america's eleven super carriers, ought to read up us congress sanctioned "sequestration", how five out eleven us navy super carriers languish in the docks for repairs. That american military needed a $1.2 trillion budget to revive it's bloated, tired and hamstrung military in order to compete with Russia and China. People ought to remember who really runs america for the last 150 years or so. The F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning ll, DDG-1000 Zumwalt and so on are prime examples of american military industrial complex, greed and war profiteering.

People really are obliviously blind to the realities of what is actually happening here. We are situated in a time where another World War is poised to erupt. Nobody bothers to study how World War One and World War Two came about. Because if you people did, you would stumble across a startling discovery that zionist-$wines were the architects for both these wars. And they are today behind the build up to World War Three.

Keep sleeping in ignorance, there really isn't any hope for some. Humanity really has become a huge disappointment, both intellectually and morally.

it will be armed with a new type of electromagnetic catapult capable of launching heavy fighter jets and unmanned drones.
really?

. What does Zionist bringing about an illusionary WWIII have to do with a thread about China building it's third aircraft carrier? Or are Zionists responsible for China massive military build up as well? :D

Ever heard of Anthony C Sutton? He was a Research Analyst at the Hoover Institute. Go read his works, you'll have your answer.

Warship to be launched in late 2020 or early 2021: reports, experts say
...

... China could possibly launch its third aircraft carrier by end of 2020 or early 2021, according to reports.
...

Oh come on, these are nothing but stupid and sensationalist reports written by someone who has no clue about what he/she is writing! :hitwall:

Yes, the progress is amazing, but no-one could finish such a huge and complex vessel within that announced timeframe.

Just look at how for it is constructed and compare this to the Shandong and You'll notice it is roughly at a level, the CV-17 had about 18 months before launch.

So even if I know, these are different yards building the vessels by different methods, it has also to be considered the 003 is a vastly larger and more complex vessel. As such I think even launch in 2021 is probably doable but still a bold target. IMO launch in early 2022 is more likely.

But let's wait and see, but anyone who will hold his breath until year's end, will probably be disappointed.

China is on steroid. After a few more weeks, the bridge will be there. :enjoy:

Americans have historically taken their maritime security seriously. These investments enabled USN to be equipped with vastly superior strike platforms and hone its warfighting capability in comparison to other navies. However, USN is working with scores of BEATEN HULLS in the present, courtesy of global footprint and operations, and these should be replaced at a fast pace or else the gap between total count of (mission-capable) strike platforms will widen (versus PLAN) in the coming years.

PLAN have a large number of FRESH HULLS to work with in the present (emerging Blue Water Navy), and Chinese shipbuilding capabilities are now developed to the extent that they will enable PLAN to replace potential losses at a fast pace in a potential conflict. China seems to be looking forward to developing the capacity to cope with pressure of dealing with multiple navies at a time in view of its security considerations in South China Sea and Indian Ocean respectively.

Chinese advances across multiple domains have surprised many around the world, and Chinese shipbuilding capacity have left American shipbuilding capacity in the dust lately. The Americans are feeling the heat and scrambling to bridge this gap in the coming years. Interesting times ahead.
I work in the shipbuilding industry, trust me, US is no where near Chinese capacity. Most civilian yards are dead in the US, in China its dual use, we can crank out ships like cakes.

what you say very well may be true, but at the same time, you're a bit on the biased side due to what nation you hail from.

Well capability wise I may be biased, but the US yards being dead, its reality.

Aircraft carriers are sitting ducks.

They cost to much, and are easy targets.

No piece of military equipment exists in isolation.

As part of US strategic/naval warfighting doctrine, aircraft carriers project a lot of power. They may be sitting ducks but only a very foolish or capable (or both) country would think about sinking a USN aircraft carrier, and the US knows this. Therefore, while interesting 'shipkiller' weapons exist, their use would likely mean all-out war between the attacker and the US. Hope that provides some context.
