We welcome competition!

One needs to be indebted to some not so smart great power to give China enough excuse to build. Otherwise, aggressiveness is hard to emanate organically from China, which is a problem to tackle with.

A healthy dose of aggressiveness must be present with or without external threat. After all, this is the signature quality of civilization-states.

This ship is to bang JMSDF coastguard ship Shikishima (9700tons) who previous held the title as largest coastguard ship to bully Chinese coast guard in Diaoyutai. Now we return the favor by building a even bigger one. Let see who gets hurt more if we start banging each other :enjoy:

Once PLAN builds 3 domestic CV, we will decomission CV-16 Liaoning and make her the largest coast guard ship and see who dare to bang her?

LOL,bang is a good word.

But what does it offer other than the size? I fail to see the logic behind it. It has no major weaponary. Even Destroyers weigh bout 8000 tonnes.

Maybe built for endurance and fuel storage?

Good luck with that!

You would need someting bigger to - literally - push it out of the way. Which pretty much rules out an surface combattant currently in service (US: a flight III Arleigh Burke destroyer full load displacement will be 9,800 t, only the Zumwalts are larger. Russia: only Slava and Kirov class ships are sufficiently large) but for large ships e.g. LPDs or auxiliaries (i.e. oilers, underway replenishment ship, prepositioning ships)

Size matter everything for Coast guard.

That is the question. How?

Good luck with that!

Some coast guards get it on with fishery protection vessel from other nations, including by ramming.

The bigger your ship, the better it can ram and the more difficult it is for someone else to effectively ram it.

If your coast guard ship is 12k ton and it is the largest coast guard ship aorund, then the only counter would be a navy ship. However, this would need to be of sufficient size i.e. >12k tons full load. That means, for most navy's, an LPD or AOR (if available). As for combat ships: only the Russian Slava and Kirov classes of ships and the US Zumwalt classess qualify as sufficiently large.

Plus, a large ship should be able to stick around longer on a given spot.

Do you really have to ask such a funny question? Use common sense for that matter to digest why bigger coast guard is more advantageous.
Now you are being funny. How is a 12000 ton class is advantageous than a 9000 or 8000ton ?
Big ship means u think they cover large area?
Big ship means u think faster?
Big ship means u think they will scare away small boats?
All in all its a Coast guard ship not a Navy ship, Maybe you can explain rather than go taking on the question.

Doesnt CG needs to be fast ? Endurance is never an important since they aer almost always close to their coast .

Nowadays many weapon system is modularization.
So when build a coastguard ship, the factory will previously leave some weapon slot.
Then......
This is just my assumption, forget it.

I really looks funny and squashing my brain for common sense did throw me why an country will design a coast guard for ramming other vessels, even if its fishermen's? There are now rules on boarding ships, and it cannot just go and ram.

I do not see any other country adapting such an approach.

Come on. No country has a doctrine of having a CG ship ramming another ship or a fishing boat. U and me well know such are against international rules.
Its like an competition they have entered with the Japanese.

U can just hand it over to navy :P
