What's new

China's 12000 - ton coastguard ship will be arrived in the south China sea.

Now you are being funny. How is a 12000 ton class is advantageous than a 9000 or 8000ton ?
Big ship means u think they cover large area?
Big ship means u think faster?
Big ship means u think they will scare away small boats?
All in all its a Coast guard ship not a Navy ship, Maybe you can explain rather than go taking on the question.

Doesnt CG needs to be fast ? Endurance is never an important since they aer almost always close to their coast .
If CG ships are almost always close to the coast, why is it that CG ships have much greater range (and typically lesser top speed) than navy ships of comparable size?

These are the EEZ claims in the South China Sea. You would expect to find CG action around the edges of the claims. Mostly not so near shore.

I really looks funny and squashing my brain for common sense did throw me why an country will design a coast guard for ramming other vessels, even if its fishermen's? There are now rules on boarding ships, and it cannot just go and ram.

I do not see any other country adapting such an approach.

Come on. No country has a doctrine of having a CG ship ramming another ship or a fishing boat. U and me well know such are against international rules.
Its like an competition they have entered with the Japanese.

U can just hand it over to navy :P

I suggest you review recent incidents between Chinese and Vietnamese government ship.

Not to mention Indionesia sinking loads of Chinese fishing vessels for illegal fishing.

Have you ever thought that bigger coast guard means we can patrol 24/7 without docking at port? Also the fact we can have more accommodation space for the personnels and deploy more asset onboard?

Different circumstance and capability speak differently for each country. For us, we build bigger Coast Guard because we can but also we need to patrol our offshore territory longer due to the amount of contested features we have to protect. That beside the point, a few of these will send a message that the SCS is our lake, so to speak.

Yes, a collision is a violation of international law... USA, the coast guard prefer to use naval gun...

Look, the Japan coast guard is how to treat a Taiwanese fishing boat.

So, Japan and the Philippines are legal. Illegal in China... But what about Taiwan? The collision, the shooting fishermen in Taiwan. They have a violation of international law? So, warships is that truth, artillery namely justice.

Thanks for the USA, they are the best teachers.

12000 ton would meet difficulties in Spratly which is all of shoal and submerge reefs.
Remember a Chinese corvette named Dongguan, about 1700 ton. ever trapped there.

It is to challenge Japan coast guard in North asian sea or act as mother ship for SCS.

The Indian are just ignorant. They have poor knowledge of international rules. Same apply to their weapon making equivalent. :D
No India is not ignorant by IL, India don't believe in collision or get collided , it believe in sinking other ships , that's why Your CG/ Navy afraid to come near Indian oil Rig which is placed in the ocean bed which is claim by China by beating chest.

Indian only have big mouth. When comes to the real thing, they chicken out. :D
Your oil rig disappear even before we appear. Not even the need for us to sink.

What PLAN ship has Indian sink in Indian Ocean? :enjoy:

what sort of logic is that? Why would PLAN ship be sunk in IO? Oh you want us to sink?
Unlike some Navy IN has tradition of proffesionalism. Not some false bravado ramming ships and more crude ramming a fighter jet. LOL.

That was not my claim, I really wanted to know why they want such a huge ship. I was expecting you to answer that, thanks anyway.

Ask your buddy about the logic. I just borrow it from him since he mention it. I thought Indian alway brag and claim Indian Ocean is their backyard.

Thanks for calling him my buddy, bragging is you are doing it. And Indian Navy never claimed Indian Ocean as their backyard.Preach that to your PLAN whcih seems to claim whole of SCS as theirs showing some 3000 year old map.

Longer cruise, collision, and non-military action...
