China may be starting work on VSTOL fighter
A brief report on the Aviation Industries of China (AVIC) website on 20 March provided the first public indication that the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) may be developing a new vertical/short take-off or landing (VSTOL) aircraft.
The report states that "on 20 March 20, AVIC Chengdu Engine signed a contract with AVIC AAPT [AVIC Engine Research Institute] regarding joint development of VSTOL. The project of VSTOL propulsion is aimed at increasing military amphibious attack ability while filling the gap of this type of military weapon".
