2013 International Contest of Applications in Nano-micro Technologies (iCAN’13) was grandly held together with Transducers’13 in Centre de Conventions International de Barcelona (CCIB) on June 16th-18th, 2013. iCAN’13 was organized by Ministry of Education and Chinese International NEMS Society. iCAN’13 attracted more than 5000 students and over 100 universities/colleges from all over the world. Eventually 18 teams were selected in the final contest from 9 countries and regions, The topics of final teams covered many fields, such as Smart health care, public security and so on.


During the final competition, all the teams had fully demonstrated their great talent, independent innovation and originality of invention by showing to public, professional defense and product introduction. The judge team was combined by more than 40 entrepreneurs and investors from all over the world. Members reviewed and marked each team’s project. Also, votes from over 3000 exhibitors and hundreds of thousands spectators was counted in this the final competition.

After two days competition, finally 2 teams won the first prize. They are “Intelligent hearing protection system” from National University of Defense Technology and “Quasimodo” from University of Saarland, Germany. 4 teams won the second prize. They are “iShine” from Hefei University of Technology, “EMKinderwagen” from TU Darmstadt, Germany, “iLid” from Eth Zürich, Switzerland, and “Sma ROBO-REAL Smart ROBOT-” from Fukushima prefectural Koriyama-kita Technical High School, Japan. Besides, 6 teams won the third prize and 6 teams won the Best Contribution Award.
