HANGZHOU: China is willing to work with India to maintain their "hard-won sound" ties and further boost bilateral cooperation, President Xi Jinping told Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Sunday as the two leaders held talks amid differences over a raft of issues.

"China is willing to work with India to maintain their hard-won sound relations and further advance their cooperation", state-run Chinese Xinhua news agency quoted Xi as saying during their half an hour meeting, their second in less than three months.

The two leaders met before they attended the BRICS leaders meeting held ahead of the G20 summit here.

Xi's comments came in the backdrop of a raft of differences between the two countries including listing of Pakistan-based terrorist organisations in the UN, China stalling India's membership at the elite Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and the USD 46 billion China-Pakistan Corridor being built through Azad Kashmir (Azad Kashmir).

The two leaders had last met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in June in Tashkent and are again set to meet in Goa next month on the sidelines of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit.

Officials on both sides attach importance to the meeting in view of growing differences between the two Asian giants on bilaterally sensitive issues like listing of Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Muhammad leader Masood Azhar.

China, too, has been concerned over close India-US ties, especially in defence, as the two countries signed the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) that will give the militaries of the two countries access to each other's facilities for supplies and repairs.

PM Modi in Hangzhou

PM Modi reached Hangzhou on Saturday night after concluding his two-day visit in Hanoi. He will also hold bilateral meetings with his Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull and Saudi Arabia's Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

He will attend the two-day G20 summit to begin here later under the theme of "Strengthening Policy coordination and Breaking a new path for growth".
On Monday, he will take part in the second and concluding session of the G20 and hold bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister Theresa May and Argentinian President Mauricio Macri before returning to Delhi.

We also believe so but then stop having military presence in p0 k . Let be sensitive on each other's issues. We do not have any issue with CPEC but it should not touch Kashmir.

Chinese are very cheesy when giving press interviews but their motive remains largely suspicious.
After SCS ruling China will want lesser muscle flexing and lesser troubles....

This is definitely interesting......
Is not really Modi specific though, says more about some irritant in China-U.S relationship than anything else.

No, I'm in favor of gradually reducing the trade. There should be a provision of FTA with countries allied to India.

Who said about giving them unnecessary trade concessions, I want the government to promote a more sustainable Bilateral trade with China the current regime is not sustainable

The Idea is to make them our friend. Trade is a good way to grow relationship. Its idiotic to go out of our way to make enemies. Do u want India to act like Pakistan?

I'm trying to leverage this trade for a diplomatic brownie point.
